ROFL the north wasn't presenting much opposition or a better proposal, they didn't want the influx of blacks up there.

The Confederate Battle Flag was never intended to be a symbol of racial superiority where did you ever get that. And the Stars and Stripes flew over the northern states which also believe in white superiority, most just did not allow slavery. The President of the United States at the time of the war believed in white racial superiority.

Just amazing the history they much teach these days.

But we already know the CBF is now the equivalent of the Swastika, that hysteria has now move to the issue here.

So how about the OP, your comments?

What Lincoln thought and when is pretty irrelevant. The south's big concern was losing slavery with the new prez.

A brief history of the rise, progress, and policy of anti-slavery and the political organization into whose hands the administration of the Federal Government has been committed will fully justify the pronounced verdict of the people of Georgia. The party of Lincoln, called the Republican party, under its present name and organization, is of recent origin. It is admitted to be an anti-slavery party.

Goldwater beat him to it being the first governor to desegregate the state National Guard.

There was no movement to end slavery before the war. It was legal in the United States all through the war and after the war.

Except for the states and the territories that prohibited slavery.

No, it wasn't in the states north of the Mason Dixon line -- and the Confiscation Acts and Emancipation Proclamation had the force of law in the States in rebellion.

What does that have to do with what I posted and the reasons for secession? There was fear of ending slavery. Hence the secessions.

Read the declarations of secession. That's what a main cause of war. The fear that Lincoln would end slavery.

The flag was offensive to some, so, the flag had to come down. America is a PC country, now.
