But then, the only way for Biden to "address" it would be by packing the court. He has already said that he is not a fan of the idea. One Dem senator, from West Virginia, has said he will never vote for packing the court, which would make the Dems have at most 49 votes on this, even if they win both Georgia runoffs. With 49-51, there would no tie to break by veep Harris, so the effort would fail.

And also, you know that I'm entirely for containing Covid-19, but also, I'm not for authoritarian measures. I'm for educational campaigns. I haven't seen any. I speak five languages and have many ties with foreign countries (out of international scientific collaborations between my university and foreign groups) so I routinely watch foreign TV through satellite and online subscriptions. In many foreign countries there are public health announcements in the form of 30-second video clips with rotating points (making one simple point at a time), educating the population on Covid-19, social distancing, proper mask use, etc. None, here. We see some governors trying to implement some mandatory rules, and not many Americans are willing to follow them. That doesn't work. By culture, we are a rebellious, freedom-loving people, and we resent governmental authority.

Finally, even though I am a big advocate for control of the virus, I think the SCOTUS is actually right. The letter of the US Constitution does support religious freedom. So, even though the SCOTUS decision may be scientifically unsound and may contribute to further spread of the virus, in the letter of the law it is true that imposing restrictions on religious services is unconstitutional.

In my humble opinion, much better would have been for Governor Cuomo to invite to his office the leaders of the main religions in New York, and have a long and nice talk with them, ASKING for collaboration. He could have suggested a number of measures THEY might want to freely adopt, such as outdoor services, offering more services in alternation so that the faithful could gather in smaller numbers during each service, implementing social distancing during the services, soliciting mask use during the services, etc.

I guarantee that he'd have achieved better results, than trying to impose mandatory rules. He touched a nerve, the freedom of religion nerve, which is indeed enshrined in our constitution, so the SCOTUS reacted accordingly.

One of the justices said in his opinion, "it's not because of being in the middle of a pandemic that we can toss out the Constitution." And legally speaking, he is right.

I agree in that limiting church attendance may be a breach of religious freedom but there are safer ways to gather - mind you there are some church practices that do push the infection control boundaries and I am thinking of the practice of communion. The church has struggled with this from way before Covid but there seems to be little supporting data one way or the other

Russia is laughing at us right now, all they did was want to hurt Hillary, but they got Trump elected, that was just a mega bonus

not sure why Trump and some of his supporters defend Putin, he has not earned it

Why did he need to Hurt Hillary and you do realize they ran ads for both sides don't you.
