I no longer accept that. Israel has betrayed the process and is a belligerent occupier- nothing more. The struggle to free Palestine from the neoZionist jackboot will continue without Israel's willing participation- which is simply recognition of ' facts on the ground ' created over the past six miserable decades.
First of all "against the interst of the global pop" is VERY debatable and dramatic, sounds great but how true is it ? secound, US demanded to hold off building in the terretories many times, it agreed that Pals should have a country, many congress men agree to 67 so i belive you are drawn to popular hate conspirencies, the other way to address it is to consider that there might be elements in the pal's party that dont what any peace at all and so the way to reach peace is more complicated than what we hear in the media.
Day after the declaration all those countries that voted for Pal's will urge Abass to sit with the Israelis and discuss his "on paper" country to be something more
There are elements in the Likud party that don't want any peace at all, so why should the US government honor such while rejecting those elements on the Palestinian side which are seeking peace through non-violent means?
you assume that peace objectors are only in the Israeli side?? there are many on the Pal side as well, even now - Fatah favours the UN declaration and Hamas objects - clearly each have its own agenda US should not support who ever objects the peace, some likud members dont belive in peace, its leadership does or so stated, Bibi is reported to agree to 67 and will discuss Abass on it on their trip to US

I don't doubt that but the balance will have shifted. Israel's compliance will be welcome- not indispensable. The Palestinians will have , at the very least, access to the international courts. The neoZionists can shove that up their yarmulkes.
There are elements on both sides which reject peace, meaning that there is no reason for the US to not support both sides. In the days leading up to the expected vote this week, the US will continue to do everything it can to avoid this train-wreck scenario, as it is being called in Washington. http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/0e21ea0a-dfe2-11e0-a820-00144feabdc0.html#axzz1YJR0AWcR

Pal's can use some levrage here, no dought , if hamas will support border talks and recognizing Israel existance - Israeli ppl will also support - and so will the head clown in our gov
You won't get anywhere until his head has rolled. Lieberman's too. And it's no good offering up Livni as a substitute. She's an alleged war criminal already. You need to be looking elsewhere if you want to legitimize your thieving country.
I dont think ill be using your advices to "improve" our life in Israel....althou i still enjoy reading them
Thankfully, other Israelis will. That's in addition to the couple of million Palestinian citizens of Israel.
Gilos, Sorry, but a large part of the world's nations is losing patience, which is why most countries will support the Palestinian bid for statehood. Israel is blocking the negotiations by bluntly refusing to stop builiding new (or expanding) settlements on the West Bank.
You should, yesterday a nice piece could be read in the New York Times (!); how the extreme-right in Israel is un-democratic at it's very core. I'll make a thread about it.
extreme right are right where they should be - at the edge of israeli politicts, Likud is not extereme right BTW, few may be but not the majority or their voters
I know, During Bibi all building stopped for at least 10 months but that Pal's refused to negotiate anyway
Bibi refused to negotiate until they recognized Israel.. and they can't recognize Israel as it stands ...... occupying the West Bank, Shaaba Farms and the Golan.
That's not the meaning of recognising, it means israel will exist with Pal's and none will have the "right" to attack the other, the borders were never discussed, still , we stopped building, A new offer is being created now, press hints Bibi has agreed to rephrase the recognising bit, I hope this will end up with real peace.........
Ach......Bibi did nothing of the sort. He allowed building on some 3000 pre-approved houses in the West Bank.ie increased settlements and continued to allow building in East Jerusalem and the nearby annexed areas of the West Bank. In other words, he did as little as possible to look good to the US and not enough to satisfy the Palestinians.just as he has done all along....but then, why would he want to get the Palestinians to the negotiating table when he has no intentions of negotiating? After all, there appears little of good will and any real intention to come to any peaceful conclusion when Bibi said Israel's freeze on construction in West Bank settlements was only temporary, and saying: "In another eight months, we'll start building again.
I still say never trust any Bibi offers and continue on the UN path. I assume you are aware that the PA recognised Israel before Oslo..it was one of the pre-conditions for the meeting..and the current method of keeping the Palestinians from the negotiating table, apart from the ever increasing and expanding settlements was the addition of the recognition of a Jewish State of Israel. Wouldn't it be interesting, having used it for a long time to stop everything in the tracks Bibi wants, he suddenly finds it isn't that important anymore..and wouldn't that just illustrate that it was always a spoiler?
Going to cost them a lot to sort out, isn't it. But then they always knew they were chancing their arm......they just relied on Golda Meir's After the Holocaust, Jews are allowed to do anything remark. And so far she has been proven right.
Instead of building salt water desalination plants and sewage treatment plants all these years, Israel has spent her money on cheap settlement housing, recruiting immigrants and weapons.
