Yeah that's why we got Zawahiri just less than one year later in Kabul, because the Taliban kept their word. :)

Sorry, but a bit off reality.

We needed to invade because we needed to answer, as best we could, what happened on 9/11. Afghanistan was the origin of the attack, and groups like the Taliban needed to feel consequences for enabling it. The training facilities I suppose could be easily replaced, but do provide a symbolic target. But at the end of the day, it's their country and they're not like us. So we go in, make them pay, and leave. We make them pay so that nobody thinks of us what the Japanese thought of us before pearl harbor. That they can just hit us hard and we immediately ask for peace/ can be pushed over. That notion must be dispelled with force. But making Afghanistan like us? That was a costly fantasy.

Because rightists and trumpists are the only ones still talking about Afghanistan. Obviously y'all care a great deal for all that old military junk that was left behind.

God speed to you on your quest!

Oh you have me confused for a rightist and trumpist. I do not give a **** about the old military equipment and ammo left behind. You obviously do. I encourage you to do our Military service members a good deed and get all that garbage that was left behind. I myself will pray for your safe return and wish our service members a blessed Christmas at home this year.

    God speed!

Biden and Trump share the dishonor of their betrayal of our Afghan allies and innocent people who depended on us to shield them from tyranny.

You know that there were only 2500 troops left when Joe took office rigth ? And those 2500 were assigned to keep the US consulate and to the airport right ?

You know that all of that military equipment was already in the hands of the Taliban right ?

    No.

Trump had already given away the armaments and equipment and withdrawn the troops down to 2500 before Joe took office. What was Joe supposed to do ?

Biden had no trouble reversing many other Trump policies. He could have reversed this one too. And the equipment was inconsequential. Biden joined Trump's betrayal.

Nobody wanted us to go back to Afghanistan

I supported 100% Trumps decision to leave Afghanistan.

But Biden had NO PART in the withdrawal fiasco as it had already taken place before he took office. ALL he was left with a handful of troops to help get the civilians out of there. The inadequate number of troops did what they could, but personally i think Trump did that on purpose

Biden had plenty of force and full authority to send more. His hand was in no way forced. It was a terrible mistake to decide to leave, and an equally terrible mistake to follow through on that decision..

Trump had already given the Taliban the 5000 Taliban prisoners, and reduced our military presence by 13000, reducing our troops to just 2500

so yea, the Trump deal with the terrorist was bad, no doubt about that, but Biden pulled it off

    Iraq was a mistake

Afghanistan should have been an attack, but a 6-month one at most, not a 20-year war

After 9/11 the smartest guys in the Pentagon began referring to "The Long War." Twenty years was just a start. We've been in Germany 77 years and counting; that's the appropriate order of magnitude.

if a dozen Americans attacked Russia by hijacking a few planes, should they go to war with us for 20+ years

Germany it was the Government, this was just a rouge group

The attackers killed thousands of Americans and represented a movement dedicated to our destruction. They still are, and will use Afghanistan, again, as a base because we abandoned the field.

yep, about the same number of people died every day of covid

but again, if a dozen Americans attacked Russia by hijacking a few planes, should they go to war with us for 20+ years

we should of done a quick aerial attack at Afghanistan as a message to keep their people under control, then been done with it

That is a recipe for continuous attacks on our country.
The hypothetical attack on Russia you describe would rapidly escalate into WW3.

Trump lost all of his negotiating power in November 2020.

Trump could have easily gotten everyone out and destroyed or removed our military equipment with the small number of unfettered troops because the Taliban would not have interfered nor hurt one hair on any American.

It's you who illogically confuses Righties and Trumpeteers with the Leftists who voted for the imbecile who completely skulled the withdrawal from Afghanistan. Do the adult thing and take responsibility for the mistake you made and take up your own offer and see what you made possible in person. Hopefully, you'll learn from the experience.

And speaking of learning, consider reading this book while you're on your long flight to Kabul:
