I'm so happy people are starting to push back against this horrible President's actions and comments.

I'm starting to have faith in my fellow Americans once again.

Having actually read the article, this part was (*)(*)(*)(*)ing hilarious.

Murty, 45, a registered Republican, didn’t really have a choice with the catering job. His partner, Bret Dalton (a registered Democrat), accepted the work on Saturday while Murty was away in Chicago watching a Cubs game. Dalton volunteered for Vice President Biden’s presidential campaign in 1988, when he was a student at Iowa State University.

So how come I know what Obama said from all the way here in Australia but so many brainless right wing sheep don't know what Obama said?

"There are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who agree with me -- because they want to give something back. They know they didn’t -- look, if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own.
You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something -- there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there.

Well, let me break down what I gather from this. Anyone enjoying anything greater than what the average person has pretty much blindly stumbled upon it through dumb luck because everyone has the same intellectual abilities and utilizes their abilities with the exact same fervor.

"If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business -- you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.

My translation: Government is the direct origin of all success. Those that actually benefit from the financial success that was bestowed to them by the government had zero part in it including avoiding confiscatory payments for all of the wonderful wealth creating services the government provides. There is absolutely nothing that can be accomplished through individual endeavors. Thus, all wealth should be shared with the collective that indirectly awarded the lucky ones with financial security.

Yeah, I heard what he said, and it really pissed me off.

He's saying that we don't exist in a vacuum.

I do not recall where he mentioned anything about vacuums in that speech. He did say "If you’ve got a business -- you didn’t build that." That was a complete sentence, a complete idea and a complete thought. I think we all know exactly what Barack Obama said and I think we all know exactly what he meant. We didn't misconstrue his words. In the greater context of his entire speech and in context of anti-business policies and in the context of his first two autobiographies it is entirely clear that Barack Obama was caught telling a truth. I bet he doesn't try that again.

Good idea. You open some cracks in that coconut-dense dome into which what Obama really meant would fall. But let's beg the question, shall we?

Your claim - that Obama said we do not all exist in a vacuum - was said for what purpose?

What was the underlying agenda of that insinuation?

It doesn't matter at all how hard you work, if others who work just as hard or harder and are also SMARTER become more successful. Simply working hard is NOT enough, unless that work demands a certain salary. You could be the hardest working fast food associate, but if you don't know how to step up to the next level and become a manager, you don't DESERVE anything more than what you have. You can be the hardest working Women's studies graduate there is, but what the heck is that knowledge worth? Not much besides getting a masters too and teaching theory to people who won't have any worthwhile skills that actually matter.

My success has been dependent on me and the company I work for. The govt has had VERY little to do with it besides providing infrastructure, but then again, I paid for that. The govt didn't give me my education. I went to a private university and paid for it all myself. No scholarships. Loans all paid back in full and with interest. Anything the govt has provided, I Paid for, or at least people before me paid for it. Teachers gave me knowledge but I paid them and frankly can't remember any of their names anyway. Never will I think back and recall how I never would've been successful without any of their guidance. My parents had far more influence and the govt didn't make my parents. If I ever get my own business, I'll ONLY thank the govt if someone they give me some sort of free grant. Otherwise, the money starting it will be mine, my families or a bank. No govt intervention needed.

Anyone who can't see through Obama's message is clueless. He's clearly demeaning successful people, trivializing everyone's accomplishments. I guess if Affirmative Action got me through college or made it easier to get a job, I'd be more thankful to the govt, but sadly, that's not the case. I'm not the same as other hardworking people. I'm BETTER than those who aren't as succesful as me. Yup, I said it. And I'm proud at being better at what I do than many others. I freely admit there are plenty better than me, but some guy sweating all day cutting lawns or picking crops isn't me. I don't owe someone like that anything and they certainly don't deserve the same as me, until they prove they have the same sort of skills that are valuable enough for others to pay what I earn or more. My success is mostly my own. None of it was given to me. Obama can't make me feel guilty and diminish my success.

No. Most business owners have too much integrity to do something like that. It is bad employees who do that sort f thing.
