"Cure" isn't really the goal with mental health and addiction. It's management. And, yes, doctors can help tremendously. Just like things like diabetes, rosacea, or a variety of other conditions that don't have a true cure but can be managed.

I give some credence to the old saying about healthy body / healthy mind.

Granted it takes some education and common sense, but eating healthy and getting enough exercise does greatly improve both.

Depends on the mental illness. Many are symptoms of a medial problem that can be fixed if properly identified. Malnutrition, hormone imbalances, chemicals (especially heavy metals) poisening and parasites can all cause mental illness, and they're all generally reversible. The problem is that sometimes mental instability is the only symptom, and so it they go undiagnosed, having instead just been shuffled off with happy pills that end up making it worse.

I know enough about brain health to state that the ABOVE content is FOS.

There is far more CURRENTLY known about brain health than ever before.

Some mental conditions are CURABLE as in REMOVE the CAUSE and the mental condition goes away by itself. For example DEPRESSION caused by working in a TOXIC corporation can disappear just by changing jobs.

Addictions are CURABLE for EVERYONE who does NOT have an "addictive personality". Millions of people have giving up smoking tobacco successfully. For those WITH addictive personalities the CURE is ABSTINENCE.

As far as medical professionals are concerned some are DUMBER than DIRT when it comes to MEDICAL conditions, nevermind MENTAL conditions. If your doctor tells you to lose weight find another doctor because that one is USELESS. A COMPETENT doctor will assess mental stability while doing regular medical checks. If they suspect something outside of their EXPERTISE they will RECOMMEND the appropriate speciality.

Certain mental illnesses have no known cures only treatments. Congenital depression is one of those and it can be managed successfully.

    Want good mental health?
Find a superior Primary Care physician and stick with him (or her).
    Have lots of money.
    Have lots of sex.
Have as little to do with 'popular thought' and 'popular culture' as possible.
Turn off the television and unplug it from the wall.
Oh, and drink lots of water.
    That's my :twocents: ... 8)

You are far from correct when it comes to mental illness being incurable. Doctors only work to mask symptoms. There is more information about this subject for just one post. The vast majority of illnesses are preventable.

Do not consume any products that come from a factory.
    Laugh often.
    Do things for others.
    Exercise.
    Be creative.
Have lots of sex (Don't let your wife find out)
    Avoid doctors and pharmacies.

Addiction is a basic brain function. (Challenge, response, reward) People can be addicted to healthy things as well.

Did you know that 1 in 4 people have some form of mental illness? That means that if you know 3 normal people, its you! :p

Mental illness is a condition that affects a person's thinking, feeling, or behaviour and may interfere with their ability to function in daily life. Brain health alludes to the overall health and functioning of the brain, including its ability to process information, regulate emotions, and maintain physical health. Brain health is about health. Mental illness is about illness.

Brain health is something everybody can work to maximize — via exercise, healthy diet, getting enough sleep, engaging in activities such as reading and doing puzzles.

The two aren’t mutually exclusive, a person with mental illness can still have good brain health and vice versa.

There are different types of mental illness — depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia to name a few. Some of these are curable, some are genetic so not so much. Mental illness on the whole is treatable with a combination of medication, therapy, life-style changes. Our brain health can have an effect on mental illness.

Addiction may not be curable but it’s treatable.

Doctors will help and for optimal brain health, there is a dearth of information on the internet, in books, etc. Brain health is something we don’t need to depend on a doctor for.
