Flexibility was built into the Constitution by those sufficiently prescient to anticipate that a static document would become outmoded in a changing world. The principles would pertain, but the particulars would need to be fitted to the constantly evolving circumstances. Neither the absolutist literalists nor lax latitudinarians can be allowed to exploit the document's inherent plasticity as a weapon to impose their own ideological biases and pick, choose, and isolate whichever items strike their fancy. All rights enumerated are circumscribed by other rights, and determining which should obtain whenever they conflict is the purview of the judiciary, as those clever chaps clearly understood would be a necessary process to determining their legacy's ongoing relevance.
