We have an estimated 100 years supply of natural gas and many hundreds more of coal.

Mix oil into that mix for fuel, plastics, fertilizer, medicines, lubricants and many more items I can't think of now and we should be producing much more if we can.

If we produced more of our own oil we would have to import less.

If we made the most use of natural gas and coal we need less imported oil too.

Then someday when modern science finds the lost secrets of Atlantis we might have solar chips that are cheaper than fossil fuels.

But we are not there yet.

If you inferring that obtaining form oil/energy from US territories will go directly to US markets, then you are being an apostate. I am sure you have been told more than once, that all energy sources are traded on the global market for more exposure for profit.

It will unless the rich Chinese outbid us for it.

And in that case I suppose Americans can just ride rickshaws pulled by illegal aliens from Mexico.

Are you including the disposal of toxic chemicals used in the production of solar panels? How about the disposal of hundreds of millions of batteries (lead acid) to store the energy for night use?

It's not dead, nor is it a myth, but it is a horrible investment as Solyndra has shown us.

no, mass producing solar panels in the bay area with a company who might have been doctoring their books.... might be a bad investment...

So far I've read there are 5 of these going on and 5 more on the way. That's just the DOE's babies, we haven't touched Commerce or Agriculture projects. Don't worry mello, it will all come out between now and Nov 2012.

Who else did the Doe give loan guarantees to? The bulk of the loan defaults are coming in the solar industry. While I can see how you wouldn't want to discuss that, it quite germane to the subject.

    This was posted before.

Solyndra, Evergreen Solar Inc and SpectraWatt. There's three, please name what other companies have filed chapter 11 after receiving stimulus funds that would negate what I said "Bulk of".
