I can hardly believe a college is showing some common sense, and from Chicago to boot. University to Freshmen: Dont Expect Safe Spaces or Trigger Warnings "WE DO NOT SUPPORT SO-CALLED 'TRIGGER WARNINGS, WE DO NOT CANCEL INVITED SPEAKERS BECAUSE THEIR TOPICS MIGHT PROVE CONTROVERSIAL, AND WE DO NOT CONDONE THE CREATION OF INTELLECTUAL SAFE SPACES.'" Posted Aug 24, 2016 by Pete Grieve Incoming first-years received a letter from the College today making clear that the University of Chicago does not condone safe spaces or trigger warnings. Our commitment to academic freedom means that we do not support so-called trigger warnings, we do not cancel invited speakers because their topics might prove controversial, and we do not condone the creation of intellectual safe spaces where individuals can retreat from ideas and perspectives at odds with their own, reads the letter from Dean of Students Jay Ellison. The University of Chicago currently holds the highest green-light rating from the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE), an organization that rates universities speech policies. https://chicagomaroon.com/2016/08/2...-dont-expect-safe-spaces-or-trigger-warnings/ Maybe it'll start a trend. I like these comments - Whoa! A university, U of Chicago, has turned its back on safe rooms, trigger warnings, and disruptions that prevent alternative speakers. I guess the only snowflakes you will find will be in the trees after a storm. Hopefully we have seen the turning point away from national suicide with politically correct nonsense. Three cheers for the University of Chicago. Liberals, in their contempt for free speech, and support for crushing dissent, are the poster children for the dictatorship they hope to impose on all others, in the name of tolerance. Totalitarianism disguised as tolerance.
Good. University should be a place where you get exposed to competing ideas in a respectful environment.
That school better put some preventive measures in place. Both by bringing in extra law enforcement in case the liberals decide to destroy things and by bringing in grief counselors incase they consider committing suicide. Abruptly exposing brainwashed college kids to ideas that don't entirely confirm to their conformation bias can have diasterous repercussions.
nothing more comedy than white people complaining safe spaces, when they were the first to move out the cities to the suburbs when a different culture like blacks moved into the cities. white people amaze me everyday.
Do you think blacks who escape the inner city do better or worse? Are they subject to more or less crime?
Minorities don't support safe spaces. SJWs do. Whatever a subset of the white population is doing to secure their lives from inner city crime is not relevant to this issue.
Most didn't move because of color of people, they moved because of crime. https://www.reference.com/world-view/did-people-move-suburbs-1950s-8efcb8cd7deea60d#
I like this "sorry, not sorry" message. Trigger warning: there will be no trigger warnings. Most freshman are playing pokemon during the lectures anyways.
There was still legal segregation in the 50's which is the decade highlighted in your link. Segregation laws were based on racism. Did the black soldiers who fought in the war receive assistance to move to these suburbs from the GI bill?
not sure what " trigger warnings" are, but I agree with the no safe spaces for whites that fear blacks or blacks that fear whites, ect..... segregation is not the answer - - - Updated - - - was still some even as recent as a couple years ago "Georgia high school holds its first non-racially segregated prom" 2014 http://www.nydailynews.com/life-style/georgia-high-school-holds-non-racially-segregated-prom-article-1.1740823
I will agree with the other poster on one point, when gangs move in, good people move out.... be they white or black gangs whenever a town has a large number of people that think they deserve respect cause they are young, strong and dangerous... time to leave .
Someone is clueless and it ain't necessarily that allegedly dangerous collective consciousness known as white people. I think it's you.
Not arguing that the Democrat government at the time was racist, but to say the reason people moved from the Cities to the Suburbs was racism is a stretch. When people are offered money from the government they rarely refuse on grounds of principle, so sure they took the money to move to the suburbs......who wouldn't. Get out of an apartment and into a house.....with a yard.
skinheads, mafia, ext existed before then... alcohol prohibition funded many gangs early on prohibition is the gateway to crime for many .
