Obama won because of his skin color, a genuine affirmative action president. People just thought it would be historic lol. Yet he did nothing in office and was outperformed in just 3 years by Trump, while Trump spent far less than Obama did.

 

Boris Johnson screwed up his Covid response so badly that he caught it and nearly died. Then he came back and won a general election with the biggest Conservative majority since Thatcher.
How did he achieve this despite the pandemic killing tens of thousands in an election year? He admitted he had got it wrong and reacted. He didn't just double down on his previous mistakes and stand in front of a huge crowd saying he accepted no responsibility.

Excluding the facts that trump spent almost double what Obama did, left with a worse economy than he entered with, never had a day of majority approval... Obama won both the EC and PV twice while trump never achieved it once.

Afraid I don't keep up with UK politics. Trump's leadership style was atrocious, but GW and Obama's was not and it made absolutely 0 difference with the bias in the media and the rhetoric coming from the two parties. It is hard to say Trump would not have won with a little humility though. And at the same time I don't think Obama would have survived a disaster like COVID-19 either. Both would have been close.

Usually during a time of crisis a country rallies around its leader. Bush and Giuliani after 9/11, Thatcher after the Falklands crisis etc.
All Trump had to do was pretend to care and he'd have won in a landslide. Instead he downplayed, misinformed and ridiculed. He held superspreader rallies, blamed China and proudly proclaimed that he accepted no responsibility.
