They don't have to turn into anything. You have a fresh set of voters gradually becoming of age and some dying off at the other end. It is not like there is just a finite set of voters.

The purpose was to determine which news source were the best and worse. So they randomly interviewed 1185 people and asked them the nine questions. The nine questions were intended to be difficult for someone not keeping up with the news. No particular group was outstanding, but the republicans did better than both the democrats and independents. A higher percent of republicans answered each question correctly than did the democrats.

You presented a table in which you claimed that since more democrats than republicans answered all the questions correctly, then the democrats did better. However, that ignores the rest of the democrats and republicans. What is interesting is that you can calculate the average score of the democrats and republicans from that table and the republicans had a higher average score than the democrats. Further you can calculate average score for republicans and democrats from the percent correct on each question. Using that method you get a very similar average scores. There is a slight difference due to rounding areas in the tabulation.
