Sorry Leo, but I didn't watch it, because I didn't care. I believe Australia should become a Republic.
Let's not overlook the more modern options. I believe Australia should become an eDemocracy. Then it wouldn't need a President, a figurehead monarch or indeed any lying, cheating, self-gratifying ' representatives ' at all.
Anti-Royalist and firmly Republican. I figured you'd approve, being as you kicked our King's arse out of America!
Your responses are pure ignorance. The Royals perform no function other than the purely ceremonial. Any shows of 'kneeling to a crown' are no more than displays of tradition. Do try and keep up with history; our monarchy has had no legislative power for centuries.
The royals perform their most necessary function as placeholders. Without a nominal head of state, we would have to suffer such as Bush or Blair or Cameron as president.
Unless you did away with representative democracy, adopted eDemocracy instead and consigned the ' representatives ' to the jug- which is where most of them belong.
But you'd still have voters voting to take away rights from other people. And you'd still require a class of bureaucrats to enforce the dictates the voters voted for.
It's a great post and Viv no doubt believes every word of it . It's complete bollocks from start to finish . Remember that this is the monarchy which are Aliens and part of the inner sanctum that deal with our Power Elite . Surprised she forgot that -- see David Ike and others .The shape shifters !!!!!!!
Giving them too, remember. You mean civil servants ? Sure, but the clerks and officials , like everybody else, would be governing themselves.
Yep - we've certainly got many more friends than US of Aipac. LOL . A members like South Africa who was once expelled from Commonwealth , couldnt wait to re-apply to rejoin the club. Former Portugues East Africa Mozambigue couldnt wait to join. Its quite likely that even if Scotland should choose exit from United Kingdom it might still wish to remain a member of the Commonwealth of Nations. The Commonwealth provides a space where big and small nations can speak as equals It's a voluntary association and if it wasn't performing properly there wouldn't be a queue to join It encourages developing members to raise their standard of democracy, rights and governance, no dictators , some are better than others . ...... .....
They are hired according to merit - capabilities and can more easily be fired if they fail to produce required results. .... while on the other hand there's these wise words : A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine. Thomas Jefferson All, too, will bear in mind this sacred principle, that though the will of the majority is in all cases to prevail, that will to be rightful must be reasonable; that the minority possess their equal rights, which equal law must protect, and to violate would be oppression. Thomas Jefferson In Republics, the great danger is, that the majority may not sufficiently respect the rights of the minority. James Madison .
To summarize the last nine pages: The Brits celebrate something we dont have. How dare they! Lets trash talk them! Let us give them the impression we are all hate-filled idiots on our side of the pond. USA!
Contary to popular belief , in america today there's practically no difference between the two majorpolitical parties , they're apparently more like two halfs of the same party- Pinky + Perky. The Rich get's richer at the expense of a naive + gullible electorate eagerly swallowing the BS from whichever candidate who can raise the largest financial election campaign fund by promising fat returns/profits to its donors ....
Succinctly , correct and thank god most americans would agree,( except for a few East/Central -second/third generation immigrants ) Cheers.
Always respect Honesty . But we know how to deal with the Hilly Billy Boys . They just need less Apple Pie and more Love -- poor dears .
To be fair, if we British have a right to comment on something within the US, then that has to cut both ways. I hate it when some arrogant American insists I am not permitted a view on something that the US do, because I am not American. By the same token, I actually welcome an outside perspective of this. I would esp welcome an outside perspective of this. Lord alone knows just how many tens of millions were spent on this. We would be talking enough to spend on many a worthwhile project, that the whole community benefits from, in a practical sense. Much more than enough. Doesn't it seem rather wrong to you, that at a time when many British people are worried about rising food costs, and holding onto their jobs, that so much is spent on what is really just a show of gluttony? Surely a head of state that was respectful, and in touch with the people, would actually insist that no large scale money is to be spent on such over displays of self indulgence, and that the money be shared instead, for long lasting projects the benefit the people. That would be a head of state worth respecting. Jack
Blair was a liar, a probable war criminal, and a counterfeit Catholic. If Blair were PM of an Islamic state, he would have been killed or rendered for what he did.
Meantime, over in France, the people turned out in large number (80%), to elect their head of state. They get a say, at least of sorts. Actually, in many parts of Europe, people are engaged with, much more than in Britain. Referendums are common. Not here. Here, our elite hate them. They want to keep the say for themselves.
Good points Jack , however at the same time , accoring to tonights London News , there's been an influx of Continental + trans-atlanic tourists spending like there's no tomorrow and authorities in London have coped exceptionally well , ironing out wrinkles in preparation for the Olympics which is calculcated to more than offset the Diamond Jubilee costs. But as we know , theres no such thing as a free lunch - public enjoyment and partying comes at a price . Does that mean the public should'nt enjoy themselves ? This morning , I asked our local dustman/refuse collector whether he enjoyed his holidays, his response was that he wished it was longer. While in London W1/ Westminster the road sweepers worked overtime and took pride in the vital/ essential cleanup operation. May we all still remain good friends + neighbours - whichever way the Scottish referendum goes. (wink) AYE ! America would have bombed it nd forced a "regime change"
