The uber-liberal Deadline Hollywood wants to take the edge off of Colbert's failure to deliver by posing the idea that everyone just wanted to watch football instead. But even football is losing it's edge. People are just sick of president-bashing. It is a low form of entertainment.
Country bashing fares no better, and the more the players take a knee the more fans they lose.

I think Colbert is just a moron parrot that just squawks the left wing talking points like "Polly want a cracker".

Yeah, award shows are dumb. I'm surprised the audience broke 10 million.

Colbert is about as funny as my cat. It's only mildly amusing when it's jumping around acting stupid.

I never understood the need to watch a bunch of millionaires who play make believe in front of a camera hand golden statue awards to each other. I can and do appreciate a good movie just like anyone else, but, It’s an insest circle fest in a bathtub with shows like this.

I guess they are learning that when people are given choices, they choose not to watch as opposed to the olden times when you had three networks and it was either the awards show or some show you hated more or were too lazy to get up and change channels because there were no clickers.

Time to do away with the Emmys and Academy Awards because it goes against what Lefties stand for--everyone deserves a participation award. There is no need to single out individuals, because it makes others feel left out...such hypocrites these delusional people are.

Colbert, like Tina Fey, is popular when imitating a Republican. When the pose gets old and it's time to be funny about something else, they fail.
    Colbert was repulsively pretentious.

The people who used to like reward shows were attacted to glamour - which no longer exists. They were attracted to grace - which no longer exists. And they wanted to be taken out of their reality, not have dung slung at them.

I was never into award shows. They were boring to watch when I was a kid and I still think that they are boring to watch.

I once liked the red carpet, when Joan Rivers hosted. Not any more. The women (I use the term loosely) are trying to hard to show their bodies off, I wonder why they even bother to wear dresses.

I don't know the actual reason for the ratings decrease but perhaps folks are getting tired of EVERYTHING being politicized? The modern age seems to believe that they must inject their political and social views into EVERYTHING and it's annoying to be personally. If I watch a music awards show then I'd like to see the live performances, I don't want to see the performer coming out dressed a certain way to make a "statement" or any of that crap, I simply want to see the artist perform the song I like live. I don't want to hear some speech about how you feel about certain issues, I'm watching you to see you perform, I couldn't care less about how you feel about something.

Same with football. I watch football to see sports athletes perform my favorite sport. No I don't care that so and so decides to sit for the national anthem, I don't give one single ounce of a damn about how he feels about the state of the country, I don't pay for NFL ticket to see you sit down and make a statement before the game or throw your fist in the air, I pay money to watch you run the ball. And the sad part is that the first 5 mins of commentary talks about that garbage and shows players "protesting". It annoys me so now I simply turn the game on on actual kickoff instead of watching any pre show stuff.

I don't watch the Emmy's but from what I can tell by reading about them it seems like the entire thing is just one huge stage for celebrities to voice their opinions about current events and politics. People don't watch the Emmys for that they watch them to see their actors or actresses win awards and to see performers perform live shows. If we wanted to hear political views then we'd watch then news or listen to political radio.

Perhaps many folks in this country feel the same way I do which is why the ratings have dropped. It sounds harsh but these celebrities have a very over inflated belief about just how much the common man gives a damn about what they think. I watch you to see you do your "job", not to hear your opinions on politics. Just my 2 cents.

The only award I ever took notice of is the Oscars; if a film takes best director and best screenplay it's a pretty good bet to be worth seeing. If a TV show gets an Emmy, it's still probably crap.

Nothing could get me to watch an awards show.

I agree. I heard two disc jockeys on the radio the other morning expressing this same thing with regards to late night comedy shows, which are now more about politics than about comedy. I tended to agree with them as well. I no longer even watch late night comedy shows, in fact I watch very little television at all anymore.

Hollywood blowhards spent more time bashing Trump than celebrating their industry! Now who is the real moron?

Its become so self serving and frankly annoying ever since its become political and preachy. Just imagine if the money spent on this show, along with all the others, went to help the people they claim need saving? Think about it.

The winners can't even be respected, ever since its all become so diversity motivated now. No way to know whats real anymore. There always has to be a first female this or first black that or first Indian this or first Mexican that. **** already. There are Hispanic ONLY awards shows, Black ONLY awards shows, ect. Maybe a white guy needs to win an Ebony Award or how about ending blatantly racist awards? Never mind. Awards given to minorities ONLY aren't discriminatory at all=) hehe.

And this year, it was literally one long, "Trump and Republicans suck" show. It was THAT bad. Go write your scripts. Go direct. Go produce. But no one cares about what you think.

Yeah, that was the best part of those shows. I also liked those little comedy/parody skits but that was about it.

You mean I might actually get that Michael Jordan sized check for shooting hoops at the playground I've been checking the mailbox for all these years? Weeeeeeeee!

To the topic, THAT many people watch that stuff? Wow, thought it wouldn't be higher than 3-5 mill.

Awards shows are losing in the rating because Presidential briefings are so much more hilarious.

Colbert is the one single "entertainment" figure I simply refuse to watch. From an edited recap of the Emmys I take it it was one long
Trump bashing circle jerk as one would expect of any Hollywood gathering.
