How do YOU explain the wealth of African and Indian migrant families in America? No 'systemic' racism in their world, and they're in the same world you are. As for the relative poverty of African American families ... you'd need to ask the Massas (white Democrat elites). They're responsible for it.
At the hospital I used to work in we had several doctors from East india. Certain people used to call them "*******s", because of the turbans they wore. I always thought that was so ugly.
Of course there are going to be sh!theads. I get exactly the same abuse when I visit certain countries, and even certain areas in my own country. But I've never let it stop me doing what I want to do, and the legal framework means that it can't stop me. That's all African and Indian migrants are doing you know ... refusing to let the last remaining sh!theads keep them on their knees.
Yes, those turbans can be ugly! (jokes) Meantime, you and I both know that those Indian doctors didn't let the ****ers get in their way. You and I both know they probably hire white boys to clean their pools.
Exactly. Therendeth the argument. Women have romped it in at Uni, once given the chance. Nothing wrong with a bit of assistance and encouragement once the door is open. Apply this to other minority groups. Once the networks are established you can gently remove the crutches.
To be honest I am not 100% sure and I often ponder this topic. University is an example of an institution that has very simple system on the surface that they evaluation academic marks and test scores but when you look at it they have many exceptions to the rule in order to promote diversity and enhance the so call university experience. For example: Regional diversity. Many of the major ivy league universities want to promote regional diversity because they want representation from all 50 states. So someone from a less represented state can take the spot of another student that has higher test scores or academic marks. Alumni advantage. If your parent was an Alumni from a particular school you could get in with lesser requirement especially if your parents are still involved with the school or big donators to the school. There exists socioeconomic preference in admissions. Socioeconomic preference for students from low-income backgrounds rather than just race. Race. This is the obvious one. Student are accepted and rejected based on race. The belief is that greater diversity of minorities enhances the University experience and too much detracts from it. An example of too much is in the news right now where there is a lawsuit against Harvard discriminating against Asians. The premise is Asian make up about 8% of the population but are upwards of 30% or higher at schools like Berkeley or MIT. International Student. This one is obvious, although international students increase diversity greatly and the University's bottom line since they pay much more the standard for them are much higher than domestic students and rightly so.
People are free to choose career fields. Education and hard work are the keys to success in America. Not many people seem interested in going into STEM courses, but science, technology, engineering and math fields pay very well. Anytime you have more jobs than labor, those with the needed skills are highly valued. Of course not everyone has the aptitude to crunch through a bunch of numbers all day every day (or the interest), and it's pretty boring work, but being able to afford a McMansion and a yacht might be a good trade off. lol Anyway, people also can make a good living at something which is less of a brain-strain, like opening a restaurant or other retail store. Barriers to entry are low, but the hours are long and you usually don't get the yacht. Plumbers, A/C repair, carpenters and other trades make a decent living without college. Between 1970-2016 (46 years), Asians' income growth at the top-income earners has skyrocketed, followed by blacks, followed by whites, with Hispanics lagging pretty far behind. Hispanics not doing well is attributed to the huge influx of immigrants who have had very low high-school graduation rates. Here are some stats on wage growth by race over the last half century. https://www.pewsocialtrends.org/201...-the-u-s-is-rising-most-rapidly-among-asians/ The real issue today is not race, but that what we "make and produce" in America has skewed heavily toward Science and Technology the high-paying jobs largely require. That whole middle-class swath of manufacturing real products largely went to China, India, Mexico and other countries over the last 30 years thanks to globalization. That left us with a thriving upper-class of highly-educated technology experts at the top and a growing number of "burger flippers" at the bottom. Someone is trying to bring those millions of "middle" jobs with decent pay (but no yacht) back to America, but people apparently don't like that.
1) Who did LBJ play for a fool? Certainly not African-Americans. He did more to help us than any President since Abraham Lincoln. And there were many racist Whites who hated him for passing the 1964 Civil Rights Act and 1965 Voting Rights Act. He also helped start the food stamp program and Head Start; these programs helped poor Whites and Hispanics too. 2) I believe the reason he didn't try for a second term was a combination of his failures in Vietnam and his loss of popularity for helping African-Americans/poor people. He was just tired and wanted to go back to Texas.
Looking at a million dollar stock portfolio you earn from your hard work makes up for a lot of hurt feelings from being called a "turban head" (or whatever) by rude idiots who may not have a dime in the bank, I expect. Racism is ignorance, but it's not a deterrence to success in this country.
Maybe in America that is all true, but it isn't in my country. Our top universities are all public, and don't do sports scholarships. We don't do sports scholarships here at all really, outside a few specialist institutions and private universities (and no one with an ounce of self respect would go to a private university!). We also don't have AA outside of indigenous pathways, and even these still demand a fairly high level of academic achievement in the better universities. As for enhancing/detracting, I can't imagine why the tone of your fellow students' skin would make the slightest bit of difference. Individual characters are what makes the experience rich and enjoyable.
LBJ pulled a Texas Two-Step hustle. It was a good thing, to pass Civil Rights and Voting Rights, but just when everyone had equal opportunity, LBJ pushed through his Immigration and Nationality Act which flooded the country with people who would work for less money per hour (or per day) than the poor American citizens who had been here for generations under systemic discrimination. One-Two punch. Everyone at the low end was given equality....to compete for jobs with millions of new competitors from other countries. The 60's-70's was an interesting period in America. Women were shamed for wanting to be housewives and felt pressured to go compete in the job market. So for every job that a man would have pursued, we suddenly had a man and a woman competing for each job. Add in everyone getting equality and millions of new immigrants and it's no wonder people are scraping and fighting for limited resources today at every level, from the low-end to the very top. It was an amazing and exciting time of change. As long as we were adding manufacturing plants and "making real stuff" we seemed to handle it and were able to grow the economy until Clinton gave our jobs away in the 90's. I wish I had a quarter for every time somebody quoted "I'll have those n*****s voting Democrat for the next 200 years". I'd have enough money to buy myself a new car. Do you think he is the only President to say n*****? Out of the first 16 Presidents of this country only two were not slaveowners. I'm sure they all used that word very freely. P.S. The Great Society angered the White racists. They absolutely hated anything that would help African-Americans. The racists would have hated Affirmative Action too. .
I wonder if African-Americans will still be voting primarily for Democrats in 145 years? I wonder if we will have received our reparations by then?
I have a feeling the Democratic Party won't last 145 more years. But, what most people who have succeeded independently have learned is that free money isn't nearly as precious as earned money.
Not to mention that free money isn't free. Someone, somewhere, has to work for it. The cost of keeping a bunch of soft First Worlders in the comforts and freebies they believe they're entitled to, is always going to come at the expense of the rest of the planet.
It was earned money, and slavery was not uncommon globally at the time. America was one of the first country's to go to war for everyone to have equality. Slavery was a really strange and awful practice. It's amazing and tragic that people would work their fingers to the bone and in exchange receive only a free roof over their heads and free food. Do you think there is a lingering effect of slavery that a very small percentage of the descendants of slaves are able to "just settle" for free food and a subsidized roof over their heads provided by the government instead of by slave owners? It is an interesting issue that African Americans have such a higher percentage of people in poverty, compared to everyone else, many of whom have arrived here more recently with the clothes on their backs and managed to succeed at higher rates, closer to the averages. It seems their is a victim versus a victor psychology at work, which is very sad.
It was NOT earned money. It was STOLEN LABOR. Slave masters stole the labor (wealth) of their African slaves for many, many years. Just imagine how much better off their descendants would be if it wasn't for those slavemasters. Thanks for answering the question. P.S. The land was STOLEN from the Native Americans too. Just thought I'd add that.
