    Hungary eliminated.
This looks like a penalty to me, for France.
    But Portugal has advanced.
    No penalty.

All done. Group Phase is over.
Best teams in Group Phase, Italy and Belgium.
If good Germany can show up again, and if France can finally engage, they are contenders too. I don't see Portugal getting past Belgium. England-Germany, it depends on what Germany shows up. If it's good Germany than the English are toast.

Ecuador vs. Peru, decent game so far, 1-0 at 33'.
Likely more interesting, the late game tonight, Brazil vs. Colombia, big rivalry; these two hate each other. Brazil lately in much better form than Colombia. The latter can get pretty violent so I'm hoping for no major injuries for Brazil's main players.

Germany showed up in the middle and showed great fighting spirit. But the rear, they allowed Hungary to score to easy
Sane, what is going on with him. A great promise, but it does not materialize.

Hauled an other load of water.
Germany Hungary was as expected, hard fought game. No glory in a game were one team plays a 5-3-2 and waits for fast counters and they displayed the German weakness.
Those are dirty games and with that rain even more so.
    Hungary played very well.
Considering the last years, the fighting and never give up spirit of Germany was the good side of its game.
Coming back twice, that was impressive.
That is old fashion German football, the grinding, bloody nose, several knock downs and still coming.
That gives some hope for the knock out rounds. They have the quality players. Just look at the Champions League winner line up.
Its a team sport in the end

Copa America, full time, Ecuador 2-2 Peru, a very good game. Venezuela back to last place, as expected, once the teams that had games in hand played those games.

    Next, Brazil vs. Colombia.

The difference to the Euro is stark, so much theatric rolling on the ground. Its funny at times.
Watched 22 people die in that game, at least 5 times.

    hihihihihihiihihi

Colombia scored the most beautiful goal so far in both tournaments (Euro + Copa America). They had strictly one attempt, and scored a gorgeous goal, while Brazil had 66% possession and numerous attempts, but couldn't score. Brazil not playing so well. Gabriel Jesus the right winger has been useless. Every time he gets the ball he plays it back instead of trying a penetration from the right flank. Jesus, your goal is ahead of you, not behind you, dammit! So this is making of Brazil's offense, a unidimensional effort, always through the left. However the left winger Richarlison hasn't been able to dribble his defender and when he crosses it all ends on the height of Colombia's #13 who is very tall indeed and clears these useless crosses. There are like 3 Colombians surrounding Neymar every time he gets the ball so he isn't able to do much, and passes into the box are always too short or too long so Colombia clears.

Brazil however always plays better in second half, so, we'll see.

Neymar had an opportunity on a good pass, got there a tiny bit late and missed. That was Brazil's best chance, so far.

Brazil should stop crossing the ball into the box. It's been useless. The Colombian defenders are too tall. Brazil should just try penetrating triangulations into the box. They have done it a bit more of this in second half and are already improving.

The problem with Brazil is that while most players are decent, none is as good as Neymar. If Brazil had 3 Neymars, they would be unstoppable.

Cuadrado is out of the Quarterfinal with two yellows. Well deserved. I hate this player.

Or not. They are saying now that the yellow cards are wiped out after the end of the group stage.

Brazil appears to have scored but there is a VAR review, it is likely to be disallowed. Darn.

Ref lost control. More than time to show yellow cards to Colombian players for dissent. They spent no fewer than 7 minutes protesting the ref's decision and refusing to restart the game. WTF???
