And Holocaust denial is not just Jew bashing although I except much of it is, some Germans wish to prove that there countrymen did not do the things they are accused of, I doubt they could ever do it, but why deny them the right to try. Obviously the number is around 1.5 Million but still....that is a horrific and unimaginable amount of murders.

It is counterproductive for anyone to purposely overestimate the number of people murdered at Auschwitz as such a thing takes away from and dishonors the 1.5 million murdered.

I don't like the precedent. It's treating forms of speech and expression as a crime to be punished. The US also engages in this fallacy to some extent, but thankfully doesn't take it this far.

Of course, I'm also not too excited about having a growing segment of the population believing conspiracy nonsense and calling for violence as a result. One can see how revolutions got going in the past by how this stuff evolves at present. Even with so much information available, with fact-checking and the exchange of ideas being easier than ever thanks to the internet, people are still growing more radical, and I think some of these radical ideas are penetrating the mainstream, however gradually. It would have happened much more easily in the past, when many were not even literate, let alone decently educated and able to examine paranoid, false claims critically.

I suppose the European Parliament is hoping to avoid another Nazi-like uprising and the birth of another destructive, militaristic, fascist state or other entity, but taking this approach they are kind of becoming what it is they hope to combat...

 

Holocaust denial is another animal all together it is an attempt to rehabilitate the past of the Nazi regime in order to make their ideology acceptable in the present and luckily the US doesn't have a history of sending 6 million Jews and 6 million Poles, Gypsies, Homosexuals etc to extermination camps, Denazification was the US policy for continental Europe following WW2 and it should remain as such.
