If they did not make false statements to the police for what could they be charged other than the attack if it were not a hoax. I wish the local media would get their reporting straight.

 

Exactly what I was thinking when they were first taken into custody. If it is a hoax what crime did they commit unless they lie to the police.

I got burned a couple of times by posting bogus stories I thought were real - the folks on this board are smart and quickly nailed me. The best I could do was acknowledge my mistake and let the thread die.

 

Well, this is really interesting. Some posters say this is a really good show and this kid can sing. I watched one season and found it to be the most ridiculous premise ever put on television but given it's a show about rappers I can see it could have a great following.
That said,
IF this kid is a great singer and IF the show is a booming success, that makes this little prick Smollett even more despicable. It is race baiting of the highest order and IF he is found to be complicit it will be interesting to see how many "whites" are out breaking the windows of Coach and Chanel stores or blocking freeways and throwing rocks at the police.

I’m not insinuating that everyone who likes Trump is racist. But people who like Trump and racists have something in common.

Lots of the white supremacists feel that racial diversity will lead to a “white genocide”. This is another reason why some Trump supporters like Trump’s wall idea so much, they fear that the constant immigrants coming into our country will make the whites a minority in just a few blinks of an eye. This is the same ideology that the Klan preached.

This story drew interest when it was believed, but as questionable details emerged and corroboration was delayed, those most interested have left. There are still some who hope forensic evidence may still conclusively prove Smollet's claim and revive the original narrative, but this prospect dims, maybe from that bottle of hot sauce that smelled like bleach a reporter incongruously found 10 days later at the scene?

There's another story; how to deal with a hoax, and this could have some play. Filing a false police report is punishable as would be participating in the hoax. If Smollet's story is completely a hoax, if he arranged with the two Nigerians to be assaulted, picked the spot, set the time and other details, there could be evidence of this on his and their phones. This could be a serious problem for Smollet and everyone pushing a narrative that promotes the notion Trump has created an atmosphere that encourages racist attacks. I doubt we will get to the point where those pushing that narrative will acknowledge their fraud as this would call into question much more.

The major concern is how the police deal with the problem presented. Official statements still have Smollet as a cooperative victim, despite the problem with access to his phone (made more serious if it is suspected it contains records of his arrangements for the hoax). Smollet has been interviewed by the police since and, after their raid of the Nigerians apartment I expect they have developed some leads which may implicate Smollet, maybe they'd want to ask him if he recognizes any of the garments seized, to corroborate if he called either of them prior to the assault (phones were seized too). What happens if the police develop evidence that causes them to suspect this actually was a hoax?

If the investigation can be extended, given the emerging suspicions, likely those pushing that narrative wouldn't be too upset if they can appreciate the predicament one of their own faces as the evidence mounts, hold out in the hope this dissipates so Smollet doesn't get charged and the matter is simply dropped. Presumably the also racist police would have dragged their feet and just didn't put in the effort to find enough evidence corroborating the original story. Whether the police will endure such claims likely depends on timing and gravity. Despite blacks being 30% of the Chicago Police, there are racial tensions with the city and claims they are underrepresented on the force.

He drank it, a big gulp of it...however i do agree with him the entire story says a lot about the soci-political state of our country...or at least the left
