    Legal and compliance teams in Europe. I doubt they would require hundreds of employees stop what they were doing to care for this issue if it were not needed.

    It's not required by the EU privacy laws.

    The name is covered as personal information under GDPR, its disclosure and use (in databases for example) are done only after the agreement with the owner of the data(the person behind the name).

    I am not sure why in @Curious Always scenario, the company didnt ask the persons involved for permission to use the name information. Update GDPR terms and mention you use the name and how. It seems so much simpler to me.

    I think the difficulty of working with GDPR stems from other factors, how privacy is viewed.

    The companies seem to forget its not their data, even if they store and use it.

    Well, we have 150,000 employees world wide. The company figured we should just build processes to do it automatically, rather than rely on hundreds of employees to do it manually each time a request came in. Makes sense to me. Why risk it?

    I also don't understand how an employee's name is confidential information. That makes NO sense to me.
