But just how high should I have to set my sights?

I work in a call center, I am customer service for a web site. After one full year of working, I make 10.50 a hour. It's enough for now to where as long as I roommate with my family, I can afford the needs and still have money for the occasional want.

However, my costs for the basics go up every year, and the amount my pay goes up does not match. Even if I continue to work 40 hours a week, I will eventually hit the point where I can no longer afford wants, and then shortly later cannot even afford needs.

I don't really feel I should HAVE to slave away working 60 plus hours a week just to survive. And I don't have the time or money right now to invest in a career that is not even guaranteed to make my life better in the long run financially.

I want safety and security first and foremost. And if I am backed into a corner, I will lash out.

How many people could your employer get off the street to fill your job? I would say just about anyone even without much of an education. So don't count on that job paying you a living wage. There are no guaranties in life young man. It's a tough world out there and our government only made it tougher on all of us.with their policies over the last 25 years and they are about to make it even worse. They screwed us royally.

You have one thing going for you. You have a family you can stay with while you get your life straitened out. You could go to a trade school, or that Job Corps I was talking about. Look in the papers and see what kind of jobs people are always asking for and then get in a training program and learn that job. Join the military. We will be pulling our troops out of Afganistan next year so the chances of going into combat are slim. They can teach you a trade in there. You get benefits that can allow you to go to college. You have options. But it takes you wanting to step up and take them.

Thanks, but I'm not exactly young. I am 33, overweight, and out of shape. I have bad eyesight and asthma/bronchitis. Not exactly military material.

As far a a trade school, that requires money. REAL money. When I say I spend money on the occasional fun thing, I'm talking about 30-40 dollars here and there. Not nearly enough to go to a trade school. And what happens when everyone else has the same idea, and I find myself being priced out of the new job too? Maybe if I had a guarantee that once I completed trade school, that I would be guaranteed a job that would pay well and last a long time, I would seriously consider it. Sadly, there are no guarantees in life.

I'm just too tired to risk my life and livelihood on a chance.

There are government loans you can get where you don't have to start paying it back until you get a job. I know it's frighting to do something your not sure will pay off. But with so many people looking for work, jobs are very limited and good paying jobs are even more scarce. I really don't see a way out of your predicament unless your willing to take the first step.

I had a rough time of it myself when I was younger. I quit school to go into the military with three buddies of mine. I only have a GED education. But I was luckier than most are today. They had jobs back then, plenty of jobs. We hadn't given them all to China, India and Mexico yet. Still it was hard with my limited education to get a good paying job. So for several years, I worked two of them. I finally got me a professional driving job and drove most of my working life. But with your bad eyes and your condition, you wouldn't even have that option.

Wow. What a sad testament to how the entitlement mentality has infiltrated and become a plague. Refuse to try because of the mere possibility of failure? You refuse to get an education or even keep yourself healthy enough to be a productive member of society. Yet, you demand that which other people have worked hard to earn. And then have the gall to threaten to "lash out" if you don't get it? That's just sad. Extraordinarily, tragically, terribly sad. Nothing in life is guaranteed EXCEPT that if you never even TRY something you absolutely are guaranteed not to succeed at it. Get a freaking student loan like everyone else and make yourself marketable. At least then even IF you fail, it will be less pathetic because at least you can say you TRIED.

I really blame the Democrats for this. They have made people think that every job should pay a living wage and you don't need to do anything to get it. These companies owe it to them and that's the truth. This gentleman isn't much different than what a lot of people think. I know he's scared. It's a very hard world out there. Much worse than I ever had it. In one way I feel sorry for them. Our government screwed this country up and we are now paying the price for it. But the Democratic Party isn't doing these people any good by lying to them and making them think that business owes them a decent living and they shouldn't have to put themselves out to get it.

I really blame our elected representatives for not enacting better public policies and for not being consistent in their application of the law regarding the concept and legal doctrine of employment at will.

Yes, but our Liberal courts are just as bad. Arizona adopted a law that punishes employers for knowingly hiring illegals. Arizona was sued to stop it. It was taken to the USSC and they ruled in Arizona's favor. But it was a big split decision, with the Liberal judges voting against Arizona. Why was that? Even many Democrats believe one way to cut down on illegal immigration, is to punish employers for hiring them. Just yesterday the USSC ruled that police have the right to take DNA samples from those committing a serious crime. But again the court was widely split with Liberal judges voting against it. The votes of these Liberal judges should make people consider how they want to vote for the presidency in the future. I really can't believe that people so highly educated and in the position they are in, can make such stupid decisions.

Immigration into the US is no longer a States' right since 1808; why are the elected representatives of that State not running for Congress or US Marshals jobs?

States don't have the right to arrest and deport illegals on there own. But ICE for years has trained Arizona law enforcement on the procedures of arresting and holding illegals and turning them over to ICE for deportation. Unless of course they commit a crime and they don't need ICE's permission to arrest them. Arizona's law is directed at employers that knowingly hire illegals. It gives the state the right to punish those employers. But the idiot Liberals on the USSC voted they didn't have that right and they were wrong and thank God, out voted. Much like they were wrong in voting against not allowing DNA to be taken from those arrested for a crime. These Liberal judges don't seem to have the first idea of the law. The 9th Ciruit Court is a prime example of that.

By the Numbers: Supreme Court Reversal and the Ninth Circuit
By Robyn Hagan Cain on September 30, 2011 3:30 PM

The Supreme Court granted writs of certiorari in eight new cases this week; five of those cases matriculated from the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. As usual, the Supreme Court is facing a year flavored by opinions from the country's largest circuit.

The Ninth Circuit is commonly regarded as the most liberal of the circuit courts of appeal, but does that mean that it's wrong? If Supreme Court reversal is the standard by which we measure right and wrong, then it is.

There are two types of metrics for evaluating Supreme Court reversal, according to the Bureau of National Affairs (BNA): the traditional reversal rate measures overall affirmances and reversals; the full reversal rate considers each element within a case that can be affirmed or reversed. For example, if a circuit court offered three theories supporting its decision, but the Supreme Court affirmed only one of those, the full reversal rate would calculate the case as one affirmance and two reversals.

The good news for the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals? There's little difference between the circuit's traditional and full reversal rates. The bad news? The Ninth Circuit is the most reversed circuit by either measure. BNA reports the Ninth Circuits traditional and full reversal rates as 79.4 percent and 68.9 percent, respectively.

That's the ticket. You cannot earn a good living until you've paid your dues to the local bank, guaranteed by me, the taxpayer.

That's how the system works, you pay, you play.

    What a sham.

My neighbor did this, got an engeering degree on a government loan. Then decided she didn't want to work.

Guess who paid that loan off?

I wonder who the guru is that decides what jobs should pay big and what jobs should pay starvation wages. Who is this guri that says your 40 hours of labor are worth 50 times more than my 40 hours of labor? Both are working hard for their money.

Who is the guru who said someone pushing around someone else's money without creating anything tangible is worth paying a million a year, but someone feeding society is only worth 15K a year?

    How about this.

If the businesses agree to end all of their practices that I find morally reprehensible, that they do to exploit cheap labor and devalue mine, then I will agree to end any practices you or they may find morally reprehensible.

Until then, I will be just as greedy as they are, and will do anything in my power to get what I want, and to heck with what they want.

Either we stand or fall together. If you don't want that, well then, you should have gotten rid of us before we got the majority and got our proverbial backs pushed to the wall.

The government can always have the employer take it out of their check. If they decide they don't want to work after finishing the school, how are they going to live? The government could deny welfare or take it from welfare.

It's the guy that stuck out his neck and put everything he had on the line to start up the business that decides what he should make. He is the one who has to make sure the people are there to make the product. He is the one who has to buy the supplies to make the product and that it's paid for. He is the one who has to advertise to sell that product and there are stores that are willing to take it to sell. He is the one who has all the responsibilities to keep that company going and making a profit, not only for him, but the stock holders. He doesn't just put in his 8 hours and goes home. Unless the product is complicated to make, he can get just about anyone off the street to make it for him with just a few hours of training. With risk, comes the rewards. Who is taking all the risks? Depending on what the product costs and sells for has a lot to do what he pays his help. He has rent to pay, electricity and etc. If one of his machines breaks, he has to pay for it. Your not going to sell two and three dollar hamburgers and pay your help fifteen dollars an hour plus health care, that's for damn sure. He would be out of business in no time. Unlike the crap the Democratic Party is pushing, all jobs are not meant to pay a living wage. It doesn't take a genius to figure that out

Lets not forget that many of the factories still here are making the same product made in Mexico, Korea and China. If he is to stay in business, he must either keep his prices in line, move out of the country, or go out of business. Whirlpool is facing that challenge now with LG and Samsung. Go to any appliance store and see what is mostly on the floor. It sure isn't Whirlpool or Maytag. How many of you that want better pay try and buy and support American made goods? I would say damn few even give it a thought.

Since, immigration is no longer a States' right since 1808 and has never been an Individual power, why shouldn't a federal doctrine regarding employment at will and State at-will employment laws take precedence and be the only laws binding on them?

    - - - Updated - - -

How is ending the "arbitrary" distinction between full time and part time, refusing to earn an honest living? Isn't the only reason the private sector relies on part time employees, specifically for their bottom line?

Minimum Wage is necessary in a Free Market because in competition with one another at the lowest entry positions, people need SOMETING just to survive and get into the economy where money is the life blood of survival.

That competition is the only place where it works against fairness in a Free Enterprise system, because employers have a monopoly on the Jobs.

Also, Min Wage is the one device (other than short term interest rates) available to government for growing the GNP.

    Sure they do.

If someone is in the United States in violation of federal law, then they're in whatever state they're in in violation of federal law as well. States routinely arrest bank robbers, kidnappers, counterfeiters, and smugglers, and there's absolutely no reason they can't arrest criminal aliens also.

A criminal alien is any alien in the nation illegally.

Edit: They have the authority to arrest. Deportation is King Obama's failure.....er responsibility.

Minimum wage is defined by nature. secular laws are superfluous and lead to evasion.

Naturally, those people most needful of entry level positions (typically minwage positions) are the ones shut out every time a fascist vote-buyer raises the minimum wage. Gee, did the Stupids ever wonder WHY black teen unemployment is the highest it's been in decades when King Obama is running the Blame Game?

Immigration is no longer a States' right since 1808. Only the elected representatives of some States, missed their calling for Congress or a US Marshals job.

The ONLY reason certain sectors of industry rely on part time employment is because fascist lawmakers create completely arbitrary bull(*)(*)(*)(*) boundaries in the tax code.

END the taxation of corporations, repeal fascist MessiahCare, restore freedom to Americans, and you people should move to Cuba for a first-hand study on the wonders of fascism. it's recommended that if you're black you move to Mugabe's Paradise instead, since the Castros have a habit of putting blacks in prison disproportionately.

From my understanding, they arrest for violations of sovereign State laws not sovereign federal laws.

So, would we be worse off by ending that "arbitrary" distinction regarding part time and full time employment?

it's the nature of socialism to punish the useful. Get used to it, since the Stupids now outnumber the Americans and socialism has fatally infected the United States. The Medea is just now discovering what wonderful things socialism will do for them, what with the King's efforts to taps their sacred wires. Note that the Medea are still working hard, though, to cover up for the King and make his current scandals disappear.

As for student loans, it's clear who SHOULD eat the expense of an upaid loan....the lender. Stupid socialists, most of them believe the banks are evil, so the stupid socialists demands programs that let the banks out free. What should happen is that banks, those that wish to, could offer loans to those students who present to the bank criteria that leads the loan officer to believe that the loan will be paid back. Those criteria would include the student's credit history, if any, his work history, his status as a military veteran, his criminal record, if any, his grades, and, naturally, his major.

If a bank doesn't feel like funding future Walmart employees presently studying anthropology, sociology, women's studies, or any of the other bull(*)(*)(*)(*) OWS majors, then they should have the freedom to tell the loser to get the hell out of the bank, the bank's time is reserved for useful people, not Stupids.

Ain't no reason, nope, not a single one, why any taxpayer should be taxed to repay some slug's student loan. Student loans should be non-dischargeable in bankruptcy and payable in perpetuity, meaning if they died at a 120 and still hadn't paid their student loan, their estate pays that loan before anyone else.

There is as of yet no Pay Guru, even though fascists like King Obama, Traitor and Kenyan, keep attempting to appoint one.

No, of course not. Everytime stupid pointless fascist freedom curbing Stupid laws are eliminated, we're better off.

Want to stop the rush of employers reducing hours to create more part-time positions?

Yeah, keep that in mind when they catch some counterfeiters.

Bernanke should be arrested in all fifty states.
