Trump knew he didn't collude with Russian. His assumption (which turned out to be wrong) was that no one else did either.
I think that's a fair assessment, it definitely warrants further investigation. I don't think that was the case, rather Obama figured anything he was in a doomed if you do doomed if you don't scenario as anything he could have done could have been viewed through a dark lens if it were let out. Think about how long it took some to even acknowledge that something was up vis-a-vis the Russians, and if he did anything, and that got out, it could have very well lead to armed conflict.
