Yeah, Biden retained documents illegally. Once, when he was a senator. Then, when he was the VP. He had no declassification authority in either of those positions.

Retention is only criminal if it is willing retention. There is no evidence that happened under Biden. It did under Trump. And declassification authority doesn't change that.

No, it's illegal if it's done negligently, too.

A president’s homes and Camp David are designated secure areas because presidents are never on vacation. It has nothing to do with being above the law.

Having documents outside of a secure area is unauthorized and punishable regardless of intentions. If this wasn’t the case then many wouldn’t care about following security protocols.

So then what your saying is that the documents at Bidens home were ok to have there then, since his home is a "secured area".

Not every room in the house is a designated secure area for obvious reasons. When those documents were brought to Biden’s homes is important again for obvious reasons. He’s had access to classified documents since he was a senator but he was never authorized to bring them home with him until he became president.

As the VP he was allowed to bring things home, the same as Pence was.. And also as a VP, he had Secret Service protection, so his house was not freely accesible.

Based on classification levels of the documents, he actually may have been able to. But I am in no way defending what he did.

If a VP needed to bring home documents it’s because the president assigned the VP a task that required using classified information but that really isn’t the job VP’s generally do. What the documents entailed will be important and when Biden removed them from the National Archive.

Are you under the impression that all “classified documents” are “presidential documents”?
(They certainly fall under a president’s purview, but many classified docs are routine but secret items.)

The POTUS doesn't "assign" the VP tasks. The VP is a wholly separate office, with assigned responsibilities.

And I agree that it depends on what the documents entail, but as VP Pence claimed on his statement, these docs are usually part of their daily briefing, and they are brought to them, they (POTUS and VP) dont go to the NA or have to go to a skiff
