I just have one question. When will the FDA ban Tobacco smoking? See this is why big government doesn't make any sense.

They want to ban trans fats, because they are not good for you, ok fine. How about tobacco or anything else?

I would agree with placing a warning sign as you enter the grocery store or restaurant, but let people eat what they want.

In the meantime, pot gets legalized and it's unfiltered smoke entering your lungs ............ liberals, go figure

There is a simple answer to the question: There is no trans-fat lobby. Simple as that.

WASHINGTON -- WASHINGTON (AP) — Heart-clogging trans fats have been slowly disappearing from grocery aisles and restaurant menus in the last decade. Now, the Food and Drug Administration is finishing the job.

The FDA plans to announce later Thursday that it will require the food industry to gradually phase out all trans fats, saying they are a threat to people's health. Commissioner Margaret Hamburg said the move could prevent 20,000 heart attacks a year and 7,000 deaths.

Hamburg said that while the amount of trans fats in the country's diet has declined dramatically in the last decade, they "remain an area of significant public health concern." The trans fats have long been criticized by nutritionists, and New York and other local governments have banned them.

The agency isn't yet setting a timeline for the phase-out, but will collect comments for two months before officials determine how long it will take. Different foods may have different timelines, depending how easy it is to substitute.

"We want to do it in a way that doesn't unduly disrupt markets," says Michael Taylor, FDA's deputy commissioner for foods. Still, he says, "industry has demonstrated that it is by and large feasible to do."

Once again, the wickedness of the far left is made clear - this is wrong. We are a free country and the government has NO right to tell us what we can/can't eat. Why can't we just crush the extremes on both sides once and for all and move forward in a moral and logical way ?!

Yes and the FDA does regulate tobacoo. However, tobacoo is not in a same category as a food product.

The federal government has no authority to ban anything. If they had such authority there would have been no need for the Eighteenth Amendment that allowed Prohibition...

    They wont.

Massachusetts alone gets approx 800 Million dollars a year in their slush funds from smoking taxes. They arent looking to give it up anytime soon. Not sure about totals for other states...but the picture would be the same. Why give up the money?

So can aspirin, which the FDA regulates. What I'm trying to get at is that there are definitely different criteria for food products and non-food products/drugs and what type of substances can exist in them.

Driving down the freeway and breathing normally is worse unfiltered smoke than smoking a J. There are other ways of getting the THC than smoking it too. Republicans, go figure?

On another note there are two types of trans fat. So milk and meat that gets it naturally are next on the list? Liberals, go figure.

Absurdities and back door logic is how democrats and republicans are destroying this nation from within. Stop voting for these parasites.

But it is a drug. It's simply a corporate favorite so naturally democrats and/or republicans don't bother with it, they just tax it.

As more and more Americans depend on nanny to provide for them, more and more Americans should deal with nanny telling them how to live their lives. I mean seriously, what percentage of people on SNAP do you think qualify as obese?

Of course the logical choice to solve that would be to make items with trans fats ineligible for SNAP benefits, but this IS the government we're talking about here, they could (*)(*)(*)(*) up wet dream.

Do you know how many foods contain trans fats? Fast foods, boxed/packaged foods, canned foods, frozen foods, all butter substitutes, commercial baked goods, crackers/breads, chips, most breakfast foods, candy, non dairy creamers, dips, flavored coffee, whipped cream, salad dressings, etc... etc... the add to the list and take away dairy & meat, what the hell are we supposed to eat, grass and dirt. No wait eating greens creates trans fats in our system, that is how animals get it and pass it on through their meat.

This really isn't being thought out to well, much like the Obamadon'tcare BS!

Dujac doesn't care. He will align himself with the supposed "liberal" agenda every time no matter how stupid the idea. I have YET to see him right "gee this is dumb" about anything anyone on the left does or proposes, and I find it highly unlikely that I ever will.

Perhaps taking them all out of the store and sending you shopping would better emphasize my point.
