True. Arguably only two of the three of the original trilogy (Star Wars & The Empire Strikes Back) were decent movies. Star Wars benefiting from being a good (even if derivative) story and Empire benefiting from the best direction of any Star Wars movie to date.
Rogue One is one of my favorite Star Wars films. Better than any other of the newer Star Wars movies. The sequence with Vader boarding the rebel ship was classic.
Ive not watched any of the newer Star Wars films, which might be why I surprised that Rogue One sucked.
What did you not like about the show? Star Wars movies are not meant to be theatrical masterpieces. The plots are simple and the heroes and villains are usually one dimensional and non complex. They are meant to be popcorn fun. Rogue One in my opinion does a better job at that than most Star Wars movies. As I mentioned the end of the movies with Vader was just epic. It was a perfect lead in to a New Hope.
It felt a bit as though Rogue One was riding on the coat tails of the original trilogy rather than expounding on the saga while at the same time seeming to be yet another "empowerment" flick. Half expected Captain Planet to show up and give a little side lesson about the importance of whatever special interest group-think that is currently fashionable The appearance of Princess Leia at the end cinched the way I feel.
The goal of Rogue One was to fill in the story of the sacrifices made to get the Death Star plans to the rebels. In the a New Hope you heard people alluding to the sacrifices made but this movie details their story. It was made to fill in the gaps of how the rebels got the plans and why the Death Star had such a stupid design flaw. I don't really get the Captain Planet reference. I didn't see any type of environmental message in the movie but it has been a while since I have seen the movie. I also don't get your Princess Leia comment. If you mean the bad CGI in creating her character I get that criticism. If there is some deeper meaning it went over my head. Can you give me some examples of scenes you are referring to? When you say empowerment are you referring to the female lead?
the appearance of Princess Leia aboard the rebel blockade runner with the Death Star plans literally in hand was to demonstrate definitively that the end of Rogue One was meant to blend seamlessly into Star Wars (original).
I got that, it felt cheesy and opportunistic. An attempt to lend credibility to what amounts to little more than a woman empowerment video. I just recently watched, as much as I could stomach, The Last Jedi. When that sappy doe eyed bimbo stared off into the distance and started carrying on about the oppressed and downtrodden, I very nearly ended my TV with a 12 gauge slug. She must have grown up watching Capt Planet. I really do appreciate the effort you made though. Cool beans.
I loved rogue one and solo was pretty good. Didn't care at all for this trilogy and certainly not the Las one. The mandalorian is fantastic so overall I think Disney is doing better with their own take on the license. I am expecting a major improvement when they get to start fresh with a brand new trilogy ang can finally dump the Lucas story line.
