Remember this? As a matter of fact, I just watched it on one of the retro channels carried by my cable service. Hoacky as heck but immense fun.

20th Century Fox scooped up the right to bring Flash back to a movie theater near you according to The Hollywood Reporter http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/flash-gordon-movie-works-at-698291 :alcoholic:

My question is – who on earth can play Flash like the original Sam J. Jones? Certainly no current star. Will be fun to see how badly they mess it up.

I guess it depends on what type of film they intend to make. A campy one like the Sam Jones version, or a real action/adventure one?

The basic concept is hard to do now days I think. There was a rebooted Flash Gordon TV show a few years ago that absolutely stank.

Buck Rogers would be a better choice. Or how about this, a new idea!

I really don't know anything about the character other than it exists. To me, running really fast just seems like a not really super superpower.

Original Sam J. Jones? He was actually about the third actor to play Flash Gordon. The first was Buster Crabbe in the 1930s. The second was Steve Holland in the 1950s. Actually, the 1980 version was pretty bad, so there's not much else it can go but up.

Buck Rogers would be easier to update. I think it would be easier to develop a Buck Rogers movie than a Flash Gordon one.
