Another indicator of hard times... November 15, 2011 Stars and Stripes|by Seth Robbins BAUMHOLDER, Germany -- Food stamp purchases at military commissaries have nearly tripled during the last four years, according to Defense Commissary Agency figures. The agency reports that nearly $88 million worth of food stamps were used at commissaries nationwide in 2011, up from $31 million in 2008. There is little information about who is using the food stamps, officially called the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program by the Department of Agriculture, because DeCA and the Defense Department do not keep data on individuals who purchase items at commissaries. But Joyce Raezer, the executive director of the National Military Family Association, suspects that the majority of food stamp users are veterans who separated before retirement and members of the National Guard or reserve forces. Granny says, "Dat's right - Something to think about on Thanksgiving... This brings up two points. A. It appears that our military people need a raise B. NOW you see the importance of Food Stamps
Funny the Right doesn't accuse literal wards of the state of being moochers when it's the military. If these were civilian government employees or poor people they'd have 0 sympathy.
Funny how the Left would accuse servicemen and women of being "moochers" and equating them to civilian government employees and poor people who have never served. You know as well as I do, David, that our military personnel earn their paychecks and benefits, and because they defend our country we make special commitments to them in return.
They are for those that truly need it. The right has no problem with things like food stamps when it is truly needed. What we have a problem with is those that never get off food stamps and other forms of welfare. Privates in the military get paid (*)(*)(*)(*) and also serve this country, literally at times risking their lives for it. If anyone deserves to get help, it is them. Another reason I don't have an issue with the military using food stamps is that if a private does not meet his financial obligations, there will be a pissed off sergeant to put his boot up his ass, counseling and mentoring that soldier in financial responsibility until he gets it fixed.
It's the Obama economy. As we tilt left, poverty will increase. Greece is now the model we're using for the U.S. economy.
Bullcrap. Do you think you should have the right to determine who is deserving and who is not according to your bias? Wrong
Liberals do that all the time. Their constituencies are constantly rewarded with government freebies.
Sorry dude...but that kind of generality is useless with examples. And I'd be willing to bet you have none that relate to your claim
Obamacare. It's not about health care. At its core, it's just income redistribution to benefit Democrat constituencies. And when parts of the law harm those constituencies (like unions), they get exemptions from the law. Multiply this times 1,000 and you get an idea what the Democrats do when they're in power,
Of course I do. When I see some lazy bastards that don't even try to find work driving a $50,000 new vehicle with nice shiny new rims, living in a nice house, and collecting welfare, we have a problem. Let's give that money to the struggling young warriors and their families that are keeping us safe, where those same warriors will be forced to change their money spending habits by their superiors. Sounds like a lot more efficient and wise use of money to me.
That's some pretty hefty dichotomous thinking you have going on there. The cognitive dissonance must be maddening.
