Fossil Fuel Subsidies Cost US More than Defense Budget

    While the measure used by the IMF somewhat more broad that I would buy into (which is unfortunate) - the number is really big.

    I agree with some of the above indirect costs but others are disingenuous (for example is the cost for premature death adjusted for the decrease in cost due to not having to pay further SS or healthcare for this person) Premature death is a benefit in this equation . not a cost.

    Regardless - I would like to see the direct vs indirect subsidies ... direct vs indirect environmental costs.

    Ethanol is a joke.

    1) It takes more fuel to create it than it produces.
    2) Its use forces up food prices in the third world.
    3) It destroys car engines.

    Take away a couple hundred billion dollars and it's still massive corporate welfare. Fretting about the exact number is sort of pointless.

    Agreed - but you know the apologists for corporate cronyism are going to try to nit pick on this point.

    They're a waste of time debating with. They never present evidence. Everthing is narrative based.
