You do understand the difference between an elected official and an administrative agent of the government right?

Seeing as they have yet to find an animal population that was afflicted before humans, it's unlikely it was natural.

Yes, I should clarify, it's not going to be the current Omicron variant that the original animal population was infected with. But we should be able to find something similar. But I don't think we are ever going to find a naturally evolved coronavirus with a Furon cleavage site...

That's different. They are elected and are accountable to the people. They aren't an unaccountable bureaucrat, hired by the government to provide specific scientific expertise, who uses Congressional lack of expertise to mislead them with false scientific evidence, that gives those responsible for the defense of the United States a false impression of the fundamental threat.

Global C, thanks for the input, you make some interesting posts.
And the bureaucrat, hired by a government that is accountable to the people, should be accountable to whomever did the hiring. Accountability. Checks and balances. Everyone is accountable to someone. While those in Congress might lack expertise in specific areas, they have the knowledge, experience and money which should allow them to hire a number of experts in all areas who could work through any problem. This is the Nation of George Washington, Abe Lincoln, TR, FDR, Ike, JFK. The nation that put a ship a day in the ocean and helped save the world. Do you really mean to tell me you believe our elected officials today are to ignorant or to stupid or to incompetent to get a group of experts together and figure out how to solve a problem of global proportions? Do you really think Congress has a "false impression of the fundamental threat"? The average American is busy in their own world, easily misled and has a false impression of most fundamental things. If Congress is in that same state then we are in deeper **** than I thought.

I believe our Congress is unimaginably corrupt and that leads to incompetence. The American public are easily mis directed and misled. It's like religion, we want to believe.

~ This post explains it all folks. We vote and trust our elected officials/representatives - who sell out to special interests and group elites. Small transparent government is the solution. Unfortunately we are heading in the opposite direction ...

Government agents are often unaccountable in their decisions. Take a look at Supreme Court decisions in the last 100 years. The problem is almost never the POTUS or a member of Congress. When a US citizen's rights are being violated, it is by an unelected government agent.

And it's clear that our government does underestimate the nature of the threat Covid represents. Otherwise they would have taken steps to nip the kind of behavior that occurred in that Chinese lab, in the bud. But Wuhan is still up and running, conducting research that risks humanity...

~ I believe western governments know much more than we believe. They simply do not care as much " for the people " because they are so far removed from the average citizen they no longer are "of the people " .
