    Legally. If she wants to go through the process I'd absolutely do everything I can to to help.
    Many of the kids are temporary, they do all they can to place the kids with relatives.

    To be fair, there are legitimate reasons for the others. Sidewalks have been around since 2000 BC, and the word "sidewalk" dates to 1792. From the fall of Rome to the mid 19th century, there were no walks on the side of the road for pedestrians in most cities. Eyeglasses distinguishes them from drinking glasses. Horseback riding is distinguishable from riding in a hansom cab. And so on.

    As for football, running is just one aspect. Forward passing, handing it off, and kicking it are also common options. And since American football grew out of soccer and rugby and was originally called football, the "football" name stuck even though the game has evolved considerably since then. Even the ball started out round, and didn't develop its egg shape until they started throwing it to each other and needed a better shape to throw, fly, and catch. (Technically, the football is a prolate spheroid because of its pointy ends and not an ovoid as an egg is. But handegg is catchy whereas hand prolate spheroid probably won't catch on.)
