Straight people aren't allowed to marry someone of the same sex, and gay people are allowed to marry people of the opposite sex. So both have the same rights, therefore gay marriage cannot be called an issue of inequality.

Yes. And if there were a law against practicing Christianity, both Christians and non-Christians would have the same rights and restrictions. I guess that's all that is required of justice.

    The Constitution protects religious freedom.

Way to dodge the point of the hypothetical. But since you seem to be grasping for straws, assume for a moment that such a law were created in a different country that doesn't afford protection to religious freedom. In such a case, would it be just that both Christians and non-Christians have the same rights and restrictions?

Seeing as how gay people are not attracted to people of the opposite sex, they clearly do not have the same rights.

What gives you the right to define marriage anyway?

Not that constitutionality necessarily equates to morality,
but the U.S. constitution also protects against sex-based discrimination as it does against discrimination based on race, religion etc...
If both Bob and Beth want to marry Bill, and assuming that Bill would consent to either or,
if the government says that Beth is allowed to marry Bill because Beth is a female,
and that Bob is not allowed to marry Bill because Bob is a male,
then that is discrimination based on sex, and as such
is protected against by the U.S. constitution
just a race, religion, and origin are.

It's sexism against both genders. Males are allowed to marry females, while females are not allowed to marry females, and females are allowed to marry males, while males are not allowed to marry males. Both genders are subject to unfair discrimination at the same time.

All true. I expect the majority of the responses to this thread to be logical fallacies and mockery. If people want to change the marriage definition, they need to approach it from a different angle. Because as it stands, the "denial of equal rights" argument has been debunked.

Yeah, but where in the definition of marriage does it say anything about attraction? You're just throwing that in there. People marry people for money all the time. What about arranged marriages? They're not forced in America like they are in some parts of the world but they still happen. Not to mention countless people get stuck marrying people they don't even want to be with because they can't get the people they are attracted to.

I would actually turn your own question around on you and ask what gives you the right to re-define marriage when it has already been proven to be equally applied to everyone. You're the one trying to change the law. So the entire burden of proof is on you.

In my religion, anybody can marry anyone. I think it's appalling that the government infringes on my religious right to marry anyone I want to.

How would you feel if you were told you couldn't marry the person you loved more than anything?

Another stupid post by you! No gay people don't have the same rights. And you are going to have to deal with it and like it when the FEDERAL government (you know the only government that matters) forced states to recognize gay marriage,.

Bull(*)(*)(*)(*). Straight people are allowed to marry the person they love, gays are not. So clearly not equality. Your logic is faulty

The 14th ammendment gives the right of equality to all - there is no "gay execption".

Failed argument. Religion is not granted special rights. Yes you are free to practice as you wish but not to impose on others. Besides the 14th amendment overrides your oppressive religion.

So the government should not infringe on your "right" to marry a child, or a corpse?

Gays are not "equal" to straight people, and they should never be equal.

A sexual pervert should not be confused with NORMAL PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
