Georgia governor sues to stop Atlanta mask mandate

    https://www.politico.com/news/2020/07/16/georgia-mayors-brian-kemp-face-masks-366497

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp sued Thursday to stop Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms from mandating masks be worn in the city to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

The legal actions comes after prominent Democratic mayors in the state pledged to challenge an executive order by Kemp barring local mask mandates. Bottoms defiantly declared, “I am not afraid of the city being sued.”

Kemp made that a reality, writing on Twitter that his lawsuit "is on behalf of the Atlanta business owners and their hardworking employees who are struggling to survive during these difficult times."

"We will fight to stop these reckless actions and put people over pandemic politics," Kemp wrote.

On Wednesday, Kemp banned localities from ordering people to wear masks in public to stop the spread of coronavirus. Mayors across the state hit back at Kemp and accused him of playing politics during a pandemic.
From the coastal city of Savannah to the county that holds the University of Georgia to the state capital, local officials have ordered Georgia residents to mask up while in public as cases continue to rise.

Keisha bottoms is dealing with a crisis in Atlanta. A mask mandate would seriously impact businesses there, it would only make them safer. Kemp is a fool.

Here is a case where both sides are wrong. Governor Kemp should not be outlawing mask mandates in the state. As a Governor, he should be working with the mayors. I guarantee that they could reach a common ground if they try. Such as masks and social distancing mandates allowed by discretion of the mayors and county commissioners, and keep business open with certain restrictions. Going all the way back to phase one is overkill (no pun intended).

Let's not forget why these spike in cases are happening. The protests that the Mayor of Atlanta openly supported. She allowed an autonomous zone to be set up in an area where a lawful shooting took place. She forced the police to fire the officers involved, and pressured the local DA to indict the officers on unwarranted/unsupportable charges. She did not do anything about the autonomous zone until a small child was killed in the area.

Now, to make matters worse, Mayor Bottoms has tested positive for the Coronavirus. Do you see her wearing a mask in public? So you see her self-quarantining? Strange how she wants to enforce rules on others that she herself refuses to follow.

Gov Kemp stated that they should not need a law to force people to do what is right. But when you are faced with the facts that the public does not recognize or practice what is right, then you have to make the right thing mandatory. These Governors and Mayors should be erring on the side of caution, but not trying to kill their economy in the process.

It seems acting as foolish as possible is the way they are going to combat the virus.
