You realize that most militaries are not run with the sort of discipline and precision, or troops able to exercise a bare minimum of common sense, that western militaries have?

Most middle eastern militaries are an absolute **** show ala the fuedal system where you have people paying for postings or paying to be chosen or not be chosen for a particular duty etc. Its not inconceivable that a boat crew would take leave of their senses or more to the point not realize they were even ****ing up by doing what they did.

The thing is, the second spyplane had people in it so the Iranians made the decision to NOT fire upon it; that is something that none of the warhawks will mention, I guess it is a case of selective amnesia.

The Iranian F-14 is not able to attack any ground target on land or sea ... it is a pure fighter jet for air to air combat!
And even in the US only the F-14 D was the only F-14 version to do ground attacks ... and the F-14D entered US Navy in the beginning of the 1990's ... far after the shot down Iranina Airbus!

Of course, each country has the right to issue trade sanctions against another country. However, these sanctions are then binding only for the own population and the own economy ... not for other countries and their citizens / economy!
But if this country then tries to force other countries to follow its imposed sanctions, then it will be illegal under any international law that exists or has ever existed!

That's what the UN Security Council does, and only and exclusively, the UN Security Council is in a position to impose such global binding sanctions on all.
Before you get upset and scold the UN Security Council and make a tirade on the meaning of the UN ... consider an important point:

It was with the introduction of the UN your American will and your decision that the UN Security Council and only the UN Security Council should do something like that and nobody else!
Nobody else means then also "you, the US also not!"
