perhaps she is "very friendly and certainly not hostile" towards others, but her posts to me have been less than that - much less.

Obviously, again, selling arms is good for any economy.

I find it interesting that this thread continues to turn to bashing America for selling arms when my original questions have really been about the Saudi government.

But I'm not surprised. It's sport here.

I really don't know where you got this "bashing America" thing. I glanced through all the posts and saw lots of criticism expressed towards Saudi Arabia, but not really anything against America. It seems that people are far more concerned with what Saudi Arabia will do with the weapons, than which Americans will get jobs as a result of the sale.

You didn't notice all the posts that kept directing this thread to how much the US has sold compared to Germany and other nations and how good that is for the US economy; like your own posts, for instance? Like the post I've quoted above?

My question has been about the Saudi government. I guess I'm not going to get any discussion on that, so my (attempts) at work here is done.

I don't see what such is supposed to have to do with any "bashing". If Germany doesn't sell to SA, then someone else will profit in on the deal, like America.

Weapons sales to SA would seem to suggest that many nations don't view such as being a problem, or they would rather be the first to cash in on the problem to create jobs in order to be reelected.

Saudi Arabia is pretty quiet... Do you confuse Saudi Arabia with Libya, Egypt and Yemen?

I suppose it must be difficult to be critical of a former host country in which the guest led a comfortable life, whilst the vast majority of its indigenous population are seething with rage??

This is one of your blind spots Margot....I have already outlined the tyrannical nature of the Saudi regime...This is well documented and uncontroversial....I don't need to visit Greenland to know that it's cold there....Equally, unless I was to make a conscious effort, I would probably believe the propaganda that Israel, for example, is some kind of democratic paradise....I cannot help you with your self-delusions Margot.

The people who are doing the "documentation" simply don't know Saudi Arabia.. They go there for a 4 day junket and suddenly think they are experts.

SUSRIS is a good place to get accurate information.. Many American contributors.. The sort who lived and worked there 40 years.

That's not an objective source of information and tells us nothing about the human rights/democratic credentials, or lack thereof, of the country. Saudi is widely regarded internationally as a despotic tyrannical regime.

So Marshall Cavendish (World and Its Peoples: the Arabian Peninsula 2007) is wrong when he describes Saudi as an absolute monarchy which is absent of political parties and elections? And Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International are organs of propaganda too? You are living in a fantasy bubble.

Marshall Cavendish writes children's books for the most part..

And so what... Saudi Arabs were living like at the time of Christ in 1950.

The Saudi monarchy is very decent and have a remarkable track record..

They are completely dedicated to the social and economic progress of the people.. and they are reformers, but they know better than to jam up the Saudi people without their willing consent..

That's why they don't treat their bedouin the way Israel treat the Negev bedouin.

Their population does not benefit as much as the thousands of princes which leech of the people and their resources.

Anyway I dont care S-A getting decent tanks. Just dont give them the top stuff :)
