If Obama pledged this the media would be praising him for his "boldness"

True; we could feed all Americans, but choose not to do so. I wonder if you think this is a good thing?

You would be removed from all other collaborative space programmes. "Fine" you'd say, but most commercial development is done in Europe and Russia and China have a huge amount of resources and MONEY.

The only path forward in space is a collaborative one, it would be a huge shame and mistake for the US not to be part of that.

So you'd pull resourcing from all other NASA programmes to fund this little jaunt to the moon? Oh dear.

Actually in capitalist Europe it does, meanwhile in socialist America, it does not.

    http://www.spaceflightnow.com/news/n1201/25gingrich/

So Gringrich has proposed to 10% of 20,000 MILLION dollars, which is 2,000 Million Dollars (TAX PAYER MONEY) and offer it as "prizes" to private companies, who will in turn charge the US tax payer for the goods and serives it provides. CORPORATE WELFARE, right here!

    He also said:

You know, I think your average American would rather have some food in their stomachs, many many of them can simply not afford a pork chop atm.

I would rather have a Republican that focuses on spending a few hundred billion going to the moon than waste a few trillion invading another country.

If they let pride get in the way of food stamps or a food bank, that's their fault.

13,000 before they can become a state, but he also said that comment was also a jab at Santorum for calling him grandiose.

Newt has been reading political forum, and my posts in particular. I've been thinking moon base is the way to go since the stimulus.

    http://www.politicalforum.com/search.php?searchid=3363140

Brought it up in at least these seven threads. I wonder if the real reason he wants it is so he can retire there cause I always suggested their should be a resort there for the morbidly obese.

I would be shocked if all the candidates in both parties didn't read this forum.

This is the number 1 site in Google if one searches for political forum.

This would be nothing but a big sloppy wet kiss from Newt to his corporate benefactors in the form of access to resources while externalizing the cost of acquiring said resources to the American taxpayer.

Hooray for corporate socialism transcending the solar system.

How about helping the US and its citizens move forward to its former glory?

The point was they actually beat us in the Space Race but not the Moon Race.

If that form of secular and temporal Communism could do that in a relatively short period of time, imagine what divine Communists could have done by not even needing the expense of Government.

    I'd rather have neither.

Granted, I'm not saying I want Obama in there either.

    which collaborative programs?

The ISS? It was 80% funded by the U.S. anyway. And besides, half its service life is over.

the Soviets "beat" the United States in a handful of early firsts but nothing much after the mid 1960s.

    As for Gingrich.

He has been a long time supporter of the space program.

He met extensively with Dr. Robert Zubrin in the mid 1990s about Zubrins "Mars Direct" mission plan and is pictured meeting with Zubrin in "The Case For Mars".

I can't get the episode of Beverly Hillbillies out of my head every time I think of Newt and the Moon Colony it conjures up images of Jethro Bodine and his pursuit of Moon Maidens. So has been the Republican parties relationship with science.
