Giuliani: Trump legal team may try to block Mueller from releasing final report

Perhaps. Trump continues threatening to terminate Mueller's investigation which would itself suppress a Mueller report, so I don't think concerns about Trump's intentions are misguided.

As for Mueller agreeing to withhold parts of his report, we only have Trump and/or his representatives' word on the claim.

 

Giuliani, Davis, Cohen--these guys are a side show. It's a damn zoo.

Mueller is a very smart prosecutor with many LEO relationships as well as political allies. Any attempt to intercept or deny his final report will be met with the release of EVERYTHING to congress, the Press and thus the American people...and I mean EVERYTHING even the nasty and disgusting parts that TrumpCo does not want released. Unfortunately, due to the mentality of Trump this is a possibility we cannot ignore.

 

How do you know Mueller agreed to suppress part of his report?

I'm confident that Mueller does not "play politics," ever, even in this investigation. All the politics are being played around him by others, but not by him. The guy is quietly going about his work in an entirely professional fashion while the political circus roars on all around.

 

Trump has a lot to hide.

In the end, the facts will speak for themselves and it will be up to Congress to act on them, right? All Mueller can do is the best job he can at getting at the truth.

Pretty much. While the DOJ works under the executive, it is largely presumed to be neutral from the executive(political) branch of the government. The DOJ would claim the report as their own, and if the POTUS tried to block it well that'd be dumber than intertwining Russia with Comey's firing. It would guarantee his impeachment(IMO).

 

I have no idea. Did Mueller agree to something? Did Giuliani report, accurately or otherwise, that Trump threatened to withhold the report?

Is this Giuliani comment to the press a trial baloon for deciding which portion of the report to keep secret?

 

If the report is withheld, all hell is going to break loose. We may argue over what's in it, but we want to see it.

 

This is the closest to Watergate I've seen yet, where Nixon tried to invoke executive privilege on the tapes only for the SCOTUS to overrule Nixon. That overruling, makes it doubly easier for the DOJ to say 'order's illegal, we're handing it to Congress'.

Trump can try, but this has already been established as legal precedent. We're seeing that report, one way or another.

 

I suspect you're right.

 

This would be the best possible outcome. For one thing, state prosecutors would come out of the woodwork to investigate and sue him. There would be cases going long after Dirty Donnie left office because many of the actions would be about acts he committed before he got elected.

 

The problem with that is that not only were people TOLD it was stolen information, it HAD to be stolen or it couldn't exist, and you can't profit from stolen information without becoming an accessory to the stealing. If you know it's stolen and you use it anyway that's all the intent the law requires.

Stick a fork in Trump, he's done.
