I'm a retired cop, so yes, this should be used in training to teach the fewer and fewer recruits they get each year that even if you follow all your training, you will still be in the wrong and get sued.
Or do you think the training should go like this.

Only use deadly force to defend yourself if:
1. The suspect has a lethal weapon.
2. You have positively identified the weapon.
3. If it is a firearm is it on the list of calibers that are known to penetrate body armor.
4. That the weapon, if a firearm, is real, loaded and functional
5. If the suspect has already fired the weapon and the impact of the projectile is such that you would reasonably believe that it could kill.
6. The suspect has declined the offer of a big hug.

Only then can you defend yourself and the public.

 

We are not becoming increasingly lawless. Most Americans obey the natural law, a law that was set down by God. Most Americans do not murder, assault, or steal. They are generally peaceful and cooperative. The only context in which this changes is, ironically enough, the political realm, where people dispense with the normal rules of society and use the label of "government" as pretext to violate the rights of their fellow man.

 

It's the exact same standard Marines adhered to in an actual war zone. Why can't police adhere to it in a country that is at peace and is supposedly supposed to be free?

 

I wasn't in Haditha. And I never killed anyone in Iraq. But I did interact with heavily armed Iraqis on a daily basis. Unlike many cops in America, I was not a coward who was terrified of being killed. I simply accepted the fact that doing my duty in an honorable fashion meant I would have to accept a certain level of risk. Of course, I was able to mitigate that risk with proper training and awareness, something else many cops in America lack.

 

Yes, when thousands of new "laws" are invented every single year, it becomes impossible for ordinary Americans not to break multiple "laws" every single day. The "legal"/prison/police industrial complex relies on prosecuting and incarcerating as many people as possible to reap the highest $$$profits.

 

The natural law?

Meaning whatever any person chooses to believe and obey

 

No one likes more laws

I would do away with thousands of them myself if I could

But in the meantime I have to obey them anyway
