    Congress passes legislation and sends it to the President, who signs it in to law if he finds it acceptable, or vetoes it if he doesn't.
    So, no, this is EXACTLY how government is supposed to work.

    The president is arguing simultaneously that Pelosi must be in town to negotiate a deal and that she can fly commercially to Afghanistan -- which would be a real national security problem -- and he's arguing he needs her while he's trying to negotiate with her rank and file.

    I think she chuckled because Trump just further enforced the "governing by tantrum" label they placed on him.

    This was a trip where the House Speaker (3rd in line to the Presidency, so Trump also just exposed a national target to international enemies) was scheduled to "Affirm the United States’ ironclad commitment to the NATO alliance. Also to express appreciation & thanks to our men & women in uniform for their service & dedication, & to obtain critical national security & intelligence briefings from those on the front lines."

    Totally a great day for America

    What you describe is not in question. I assure sure you 100% percent, I know exactly how government works, and the respective responsibilities of each branch.

    The issue is if the President can force Congress to give him money for pet projects. No he cannot. What he can do is not pass the budget and shut the government down. That’s why it is his shut down. Congress shall not be forced by a sitting president.

    I hope the government is shut down for two years. See who the people blame when the next election rolls around! It would make for an awesome social experiment! I won’t begin to guess who takes the blame because the American people can surprise you!
