Well the O/P only posted twice and has not been back for over a week. That's why the thread looks like a troll. This other guy called @Ddyad is somebody else who has come into the thread lately, unless he/she is a sock, and he/she has other issues -- illogical logic and invalid arguments. I'm trying to help @Ddyad but he/she is biting the hand that feeds him/her.
The evidence is overwhelming and well documented in the public record - as you know very well. Why attack a new member for failing to provide a source for what you know to be true? For instance: “According to a new victimisation survey of industrialised nations, people in England and Wales are at greater risk than anywhere else of having a car stolen. And apart from Australia, people who live in England and Wales are at greater risk of being assaulted, robbed, sexually attacked and having their homes burgled than are people in any other rich country.” The Economist, A nation of criminals, Feb 22nd 2001. http://www.economist.com/printedition/displayStory.cfm?Story_ID=513031
@Vegas giants do you have a Nevada CFP and if so what is your carry weapon? Mine is a CZ 97B 45ACP. I use an IWB leather holster from High Noon Holsters. I wear it at 3 oclock under a sweater or sweat shirt. Perfect concealment and I can still draw and shoot it within 1 second or less.
The NCAA was a "red herring"? Then why did you bring it up? You should try focusing on the subject of discussion instead of blowing smoke.
Hold on, I never presumed to tell you what your country should do with your gun laws. IIRC you were telling me that we in the UK needed more citizens with guns so they could protect themselves. The many stats posted so far prove that is a losing strategy for us. What you do in a country which already has more guns than people is going to be entirely different. If another world war breaks out it will be a nuclear war and all the firearms in the world won't make any difference.
It would have beeb better if had provided a source. But his conclusions were hardly controversial. And he is a new member of the forum. Gun crime soared in the UK after the gun ban. “Gun crime has increased five-fold in some parts of the UK” “In some parts of the country, the number of offences has increased more than five-fold.” “The statistic will fuel fears that the police are struggling to contain gang-related violence, in which the carrying of a firearm has become increasingly common place.” The latest UK solution: “Last week, police in London revealed they had begun carrying out armed patrols on some streets. The move means officers armed with **SUB MACHINE GUNS** are engaged in routine policing for the first time.” By JAMES SLACK FOR THE DAILY MAIL,“Culture of violence: Gun crime goes up by 89% in a decade,” 27 October 2009.(** emphasis mine) http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1223193/Culture-violence-Gun-crime-goes-89-decade.html
... Nor can foolish statements like yours ... it is not possible anywhere. You had better start sh!tting me Tiffany cufflinks or I will definitely put you onto my iggy list.
My sister after decades of being anti gun -- no guns in her house at all -- now wants her own CFP and pistol as well. So I plan to teach her the gun safety rules and then take her to my gun shop to try out a few 380's and 38's there.
The article you posted links the rise in gun crime to a rise in gang culture. Nowhere does it try to link it to the handgun ban. Logically the problem would be even worse if handguns were legally available. Either by obtaining handguns legally or by stealing them from legal owners. You are making a false link between the ban and the rise in gun crime.
If gun bans worked gun crime would not soar after a ban. Of course criminals will be more likely to use guns when they know that guns give them a decisive advantage. “This week the West Midlands was labelled “the nation’s gun crime capital” as figures from the Office for National Statistics showed that the region now has a higher rate of firearms offences for its population than London.” Josh Halliday, Guardian, UK's 'gun crime capital': rancour and regret over West Midlands label” 2/20/2015. http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/...l-rancour-and-regret-over-west-midlands-label If gun bans worked there could be no headlines like these.
Just because you made yourself look stupid does not mean that I ad hom'ed you. Ad hom has nothing to do with it at all. You @Ddyad really need to study and memorize this list: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fallacies
And if guns are more numerous and more easily available then criminals would use them more. You are still coming at this with an American mindset, guns are still very rare and penalties for possession are very strict in the UK. This disincentives criminals from using them. Why take a gun to a burglary when it will increase your jail time from a few months at worse for a repeat offender to a minimum of 12 years for a first offence when a gun is used. Burglars don't need firearms because their victims don't have firearms. Those using guns are gangs using them against other gangs, who cares if gang members get shot? If gun bans in the UK didn't work there would be far more headlines about gun deaths. There are still very few deaths caused by guns. The ban works.
Well my American point of view on your Queen's/Parliament's point of view on this is that all that you/they are doing is (1) making it harder but not impossible for outlaws to get guns, and (2) making it more difficult for law abiding citizens to defend themselves particularly females and elderly. I am an old man with a black belt in Shotokan and brown belt in Judo and a high school varsity letter in wrestling, but even so a young black buck could probably easily out-muscle me. But he cannot outmuscle my 45ACP. While I used to be a pretty good fighter, now I am a pretty good gunfighter instead. Ergo I would hate to live anywhere besides the USA (excluding Calif., NYS, NJ, Mass. etc.) or besides Switzerland.
Interesting claim. The homicide rate in the US has declined 50% in the last 25 years with about 100 million more guns available. Why are the British so much more violent that their homicide rate would increase with legal handguns?
