    Enjoy.
    Elvira meets Vincent Price.
And he seems to glow with it.

    All courtesy of Halloween.
Where would they be without it?

    Well ferigners,
and you KNOW who you are -
you get to witness yet another
    :flagus: :salute:
    HALLOWEEN, October 31.

The second spendingest Holiday or UnHoliday
    after X - Mas.

I know some Russians in Moscow who years ago
tried to adopt the event at office parties and children
trick or treat-ing within their building.
    But, it never caught on.

Wishing y'all an appropriately spooky experience.
    no not that @Spooky

    Don't Forget.
    The Solstice is nearer.
And darker for those in the upper hemisphere.

Now here’s something really scary for Halloween: Imagine two galaxies slamming into each other and creating a monstrous wraith with ghostly glowing eyes.

It’s not that far of a stretch. The Hubble Space Telescope captured just such an image, for a team of astronomers based at the University of Washington.

    BTW anyone feel any spooks?

I'm not doing Halloween this year. I feel a little bad about it but it has been a holiday I have been trying to pull the cord on as far as my participation. So many people do trunk or treat events now that not that many kids come around during normal hours in our area. We will get flooded with caravans of cars late but those aren't from the neighborhood.

The last few years the local children are
out numbered by out of neighborhood kids in parties.
I suspect their HOA Gated Community may not allow it
so they form parties and come here.
The adult's & kids appear very well to do & White.
Not poor kids from Santa Ana.

    Nor :flagcanada: kids

That took the fun out of it.
    I stopped 2 years ago.

Got an hour? Here's the single greatest Halloween prank of all time, from The Mercury Theater Of the Air, and Orson Welles in "The War of the Worlds." From 30 October 1938...the night that panicked America.

Your profile says you are from Michigan

    Hardly a ferigner.

Yes to, "War of The Worlds".

Yes, I am from Michigan. And I know a bit about this program and what today will seem not just archaic but incredibly insular regarding the public's frenzied reaction to this cunning, well-done spin from H.G. Wells' original novella.

Nothing like it had ever been tried. Voices so similar to those of existing government officials. Sound effects done by the single most skilled crew of their type ever assembled, the amazing CBS team which convinced us...the Martians had landed, and Grovers Mill New Jersey is now the epicenter of death!

I contend this was also the night America truly started to lose its innocence. Considering war was about to erupt in Europe, perhaps that was a positive thing to come from scaring us half to death.

We had the same thing here in New England we called it Beggar's Night but it was just to double up on candy, Are there any other states that have a different Halloween tradition?

In California we just Trick or Treated
to try beat last year's haul!
    That was before adulterated candy
and razor blades hidden in apples.

Halloween is an old Pagan Festival, much like the winter solstice which is where Christmas came from. I guess it is a bigger thing in the US, probably because there are more people willing to waste money on plastic tat and decorations

Halloween started off as a celtic holiday in pagan times.

    a more Latin special day.
    And Babylon 5 too

    Study your Joseph Campbell ;)
    Hero's Journey, etc.
    Halloween is NOT culturally dependent.
We all have Halloween as part of a
