New rules from the Education Ministry of the Islamist Hamas movement ruling the Gaza Strip will bar men from teaching at girls' schools and mandate separate classes for boys and girls from the age of nine.

The law, published on Monday, would go into effect next school year and applies throughout the coastal enclave, including in private, Christian-led and United Nations schools. Critics of the new measures say the Islamist movement is trying to force its ideology on society, but proponents say they merely want to codify conservative Palestinian values into law.

I could see advantages in gender-seperated schools. Boys and girls learn differenty, seperating their classes could help students of both genders to reach their potential.
No doubt this move was put forwards mainly to promote cultural conservatism (especially considering the group putting it forward) but I could see some advantages.

 

Separated classes are one thing separated schools are another . Limited interaction with the opposite sex can turn people into sociopaths.

 

So can too much interaction with the opposite sex.

 

My school was public and mixed like all public schools in the country , 50 meters from us there was a private catholic school who had nuns for teachers and all students were girls . If a man happen to walk under their windows during a break between classes girls stood by lifting their skirts and bras and kissing , this is antisocial behaviour ; girls in public schools never did stupid things like that.

All my schools were segregated, right through to university. There's no way I'd have gotten that far if I'd been locked into classrooms with the opposite sex all day.

It's not possible to "encourage people to be gay", no more than it woud be possible to encourage people to grow a third arm.

That's actually not correct, the scientific consensus is that homosexuality is caused in part by environmental influences.

I can't think of a better way to encourage a horny 13 year old boy to be gay than forcing him to only be around other boys his age.

Scientific consensus is that it's a mix of genes and certain hormones in the womb. Environmental factors MAY play a role at a young age, but certainly not when children are at school age - most definitely not when they've started puberty.

Personally, I believe that boys benefit most from gender separation in schools. They are less exposed to the humbling experiences of getting intellectually whopped by far cleverer girls. Geez, it's enough to drive them to homosexuality.
