I think you have said it in a nutshell SW, however, I don't reckon standing or bowing for a magistrate should attract any penalty but the magistrate may well hand down a tougher sentence as consequence : )

 

But why T?... for me standing is not so much about the magistrate as it is about respect for the judicial system, the laws of the land that govern and protect the people within it. Standing to me represents submitting to these laws... and therefore not standing is not so much about disrespecting the magistrate as it is turning one's back on the the judicial system and in effect the laws and people who are governed by them.

I think the point being is the magistrate is the representative of the Australia judicial system in his/her courtroom.

It's a bit like saluting an officer. Are you saluting the officer generally or the uniform he/she represents?

 

Why would you stand or salute an authority that does not morally or ethically represent you? Is that not what these guys did? They believe that Islamic Sharia Law morally and ethically represents them, not Australian Common Law. Maybe they didn't commit a crime under Sharia Law?

Oh by the way,, you still haven't shown me the process how about 2% of the Australian population will replace the entire Australian legal system with Sharia Law.

There's an episode in Little Mosque on the Prairie where the local Muslims welcome an Anglo convert. Pretty soon he's giving them the (*)(*)(*)(*)s as he spouts off his knowledge of the Qu'ran and the Sunnah and Hadiths and all of it. And his view of Islam is rigid as an oldtime schoolteacher. "I notice your daughter is not wearing the hijab..." It's funny to see the born-Muslims getting ticked off with him.

Someone has already made the point that it happens all the time. ********s and dickheads refuse to stand and bow like the rest of us and it's generally not reported unless there's an accompanying fuss. These blokes are just disrespectful of the courts and the dictates of their own adopted religion.

 

What can you do about it?? Put pressure on your Government to act. if they dont, then take care of it yourselves and hold your Government responsible for your actions. By Governments not acting on these groups and letting them in, makes it look like the Government supports them. Very dangerous.

 

Its very sad, but the majority of Australians have this backward attitude, that it won't happen here. They see things happening around the world, and for some reason think they will be immune for it.

Last time I heard the terms "raging" and "butch" was in a pub back in the late 90's from an ugly drunk lesbian with penis envy.

 

Yeah, it is common. Most people only hear about the ones who make news such a people pretending to stand by their religion over the arbitrator’s power of the people’s legal systems. Those who believe their race should set them aside from respecting the institution of legality of nations to uphold their own laws as introduced by majority of people to prevent chaos.

So if they are Muslim, because the Media can sensationalise the story or indigenous. Front page news. After all majority of people will want to know and condemn these criminal types for disrespecting their ideals. BUT if they are not, well we won’t worry about reading the article or buying their product… I believe you get the picture of the hypocrisy.

Generally, the disrespect of the defendants are taken into account in the case and sentencing is usually accounted for such… I don’t really see the complaint as an issue…
