Correct me if I am wrong here but the gun grabbers on the left staunchly believe you can eliminate gun violence through gun laws, yet their go to chant when talking about abortion is that you can' stop people's behavior with a law because when there is a will there will be a way.

Can someone who believes these things explain how they aren't directly contradictory?

The inevitable sniveling and whining about "liberals!" aside, how do we address kids being gunned down so often in the US?

The NRA's bum boys’ current meme is that shooting rampages are the product of mental illness, but insane delusions about having a firearm and slaughtering children is not a problem unless a mentally-ill person actually advantages the permissiveness that facilitates the mentally-ill acquiring firearms in the US and actually obtaining a firearm.

The US exceeds all other civilized nations in its frequency of such gun-enabled bloodbaths many times over, with no evidence that there are more mentally-ill people in the US, but far more firearms.

Even if we pretend that firearms are irrelevant to firearm carnage, what is being done to confront mental illness?

Trump has proposed cutting Medicaid subsidies by more than $1 trillion. More than 25% of non-elderly adults with severe mental illness received medical coverage through Medicaid in 2015, according to a report from the Kaiser Family Foundation. The administration has also called for cuts to funding for housing programs, which often help those with mental illnesses.

Make it harder for the mentally-ill to receive treatment, and create conditions that exacerbate their mental illness, while doing nothing to keep firearms out of their hands?

    Who’s insane here?

    No, it isn't. It's a family issue.

And RWers say laws don't stop gun violence yet want more abortion laws.

I actually do think laws against abortions will make them far less likely to occur, and will also lead to more women pursuing unsafe methods.

    I will correct you.

We do not believe you can eliminate gun violence through laws. We believe those laws make gun violence less likely. Laws against abortion would also result in abortions being less likely, so there is no contradiction.

But there are a couple of crucial differences in your analogy. Folks who seek to break the theoretical law against abortion (by obtaining one) would engage in medically dangerous behavior that increases societal cost/harm compared to current legal situations. Those wishing to violate gun laws are not subjecting society or themselves to any greater harm/cost compared to the current legal situation.

What gun laws would you propose that would decrease gun deaths? It seems to me that a 50% decrease in gun violence over the last 35 or so years coupled with a monumental increase in gun ownership, firearm owners are doing their part.

    Ban neither guns nor Muslims.

As for guns, we are going about it all backwards.

Instead of registering guns, we should be registering potential gun buyers. You go through an approval process and then you can buy as many guns as you wish. And what you purchase is between you and the retailer. The government does not know what you bought. The government doesn't even know if you have bought a gun.

All that matters is that the retailer makes sure you are currently authorized to buy a gun, then have at it.

    Bogus

Conservatives love to post that statistic, and like most that they employed it is framed, there is no proven causation between less gun violence and more gun ownership. At the same time, variables as the disappearance of the crack epidemic with associated violence and the fact the population is also getting older offer better logical explanations.

Bottom line, if more guns made us safer we should be one of the safest nations in the world, which we aren't, because we got nearly as many guns out there as people

That's not asking too much. This is where the republicans really are wrong, imo. They need to have far more strict gun privileges eliminating any questionable types. Plus a mandatory 3 day waiting period, no sales at gun shows. Not keen on assault weapons either. That is not needed to feed a gun aficionado's thrill.

Muslims? Not keen on that either unless you can really vet out anyone who may be a terrorist. I, personally, do not think we can. One major bomb on US soil and that will be game changer.

Abortions are different than mowing down 20-50 people with assault rifles...

A pregnant woman can travel to where abortion is legal. Where can murderers go?
A pregnant woman is not a danger to anyone else and there is no reason to separate her from society. There is an obvious need to separate murderers from society.

The last sentence is where the disagreement occurs. personally, I think society would be worse off without the second. I also think society would be better off without as many abortions. I don't really want stricter abortion laws because I will teach my children how to avoid needing one. I don't really want stricter gun laws because my family is well educated on how to use them. I believe allowing more responsible adults to arm themselves would greatly reduce the likelihood of someone irresponsible from creating mass victims.

where I live, home break ins are extremely rare because everyone assumes that every homeowner is armed. they are pretty much right.

False Flag ... n o question about it.Similar to the one
in Aurora Colorado where a nutbag { The Joker } was
actually framed as a useful patsy. He ended up waiting in a cop
car after the mass shooting. He was heavily under mind control.
Our Government does have the capacity to frame useful patsy\
or cutouts in order to spark a political controversy.
This same Government acted in collusion to Frame President Trump
before and after his election. There is NO Trump Russian Collusion.
Howe come this shooter was " supposedly " driven to the high school
by a Uber driver. Then almost as quickly that Uber driver was exonerated
completely { not possible to be an accomplice }.Just useful enough to
spread the lie that the shooter had a bag and something in it.
However there is still NO weapon found. The Shooter discarded it.
They will find a way to locate that weapon and it will be an AR-15
with the " supposed " shooters fingerprints all over.
How come a couple students when interviewed last night admitted
that they saw the shooter milling around with the other students after
the alarm went off and they were Instructed to wait outside.
That while this " supposed " shooter was outside milling around ...
those couple students admitted hearing gun shots.
I need to know how this Cruz guy was tagged by the Keystone cops.
he certainly wasn't caught IN THE ACT.Or Holding a Rifle.
    Again ... False Flag.
No better time than now to deal with it.
    Our Government commits False Flags.
Again ... they've been caught Framing President Trump.

You mean like the DNC/Hillary paid for Steele Dossier.

That decrease in gun violence is most closely associated to the legalization of abortion.
