There's an important distinction....

If you or I change our personal viewpoints on an issue, we have no further responsibility than the boundaries of our own conscience. This may extend, at most, to our relationships with our loved ones.

BUT, this man is attempting to place himself in a position where he will be structuring and implementing laws that take that personal viewpoint and impose it on the lives of millions. Much greater stakes....

 

Yes indeed, and it is also of note that Walker says he has ALWAYS had his current view about abortion, and does NOT claim he has had any change of mind on the issue.

I’m not “on the left” but I’ll try to address your post.

Walker’s position raises two issues: consistency and honesty.
I agree that it is possible for a person to change positions on a given issue. That isn’t necessarily weakness (although flip flopping can result from weakness). It could result from intellectual reconsideration or other legitimate factors. But in this case I wonder whether Walker’s opposition to abortion is simply practical. That’s the R position, so that’s what he needs to say. Somewhat hypocritical if he paid for an abortion in the past.

The bigger issue is honesty. If he came out and told the truth and said his position had changed, and why, that would be admirable. But if he lies and denies what happened, that’s a fundamental character flaw.

 

Honesty in politics? LOL!

He didn't say he was arrested while protesting, my weak sauce chum. He said that he was arrested on his way to see him. In reality, he exaggerated; he was stopped at the airport there. I would hardly call that a "whopper" like "The election was stolen! Waaaaaaahh!!"
