Christians had a fair history of that too. They really liked building churches over "pagan" holy sites. All expansionist religions do this; every Abrahamic religion will do this if given half an opportunity.

When England was ruling India, Anglican Christianity did not attempt to build churches on HIndu or Muslim sites.
