'Homosexuality Worse Than Terrorism,' Says State Representative Sally is such sweetheart! She points out one more time, which many of her RW kin folks will agree with, that the homosexuals will be the downfall of this great nation. God bless her. She needs it.
This kind of asshatery is why the suicide rate is disproportionately higher among gay teens. If this is the message your receiving as an already angsty teen day in and day out, with no support from family and friends to counter it, that's hardly surprising. It doesn't matter that we know it's a bunch of hate rhetoric not founded in the reality of who we are or how we live our lives. The fact is, it's an attempt to rewrite reality - an effort to persuade the public that we really are worse than terrorists, and thereby create a hostile environment. It's one thing when it's coming from some crackpot with no real power. Quite another when it's spouted by elected officials, or supported by those with the wealth and connections to transform the public discourse. We have moved from a time when people saying the most outrageous crap were treated like the nutjubs they are, unworthy of a second thought. Instead, we're 1) promoting them to public office, or 2) giving them a voice on the news as representing an opposing view, rather than the extremist/radical voice they really are, or 3) having them testify in court cases as 'expert' witnesses instead of the complete charlatans they are. As dangerous as I think the rhetoric of people like Sally Kern is, I wouldn't dream of saying that she's worse than terrorism. And that's the difference between an extremist and someone who merely holds an opposing view - the degree to which one will express disdain. The Sally Kern's of the world have lost it. They've gone completely over the edge. And seemingly no one recognizes it for the insanity it has become.
a bit of a knee jerk reaction I think I understand the comparison that she is trying to make but I don't get all outraged about the figures. yes, she should have used different figures for comparison. Where I have a problem is that she is implying that all HIV/AIDS deaths are due to gay sex. That is far from the truth. So, she is guilty of choosing a bad comparison but tying AIDS solely to gay sex is wrong. That would have to mean that only male/male gay sex and those doing anal would be victims. So, how do children and women contract the disease?

I don't see it that way. She isn't calling those with AIDS terrorists. She is however maiing a false claim that only those who engage in gay sex contract AIDS. If that is so, then how do children get it? I think she used the word terrorist so she could elicit the type of reaction like you had. Who even listens to her?
She's saying they're worse than terrorists. She's basically comparing homosexuality to a terrorist plot by saying homosexuality is worse because of AIDS. If homosexuality caused aids, all homosexuals would have it and no heterosexuals would have it. Someone is going to get back to you saying "Because they were raped by a rabid homosexual, how else?". There are people that would say that and believe it.
