Diane Vargo may look like a fashion model, but she isn’t. For eight years, she’s been the principal of Mesquite Elementary School about 20 miles south of Tucson. It seems like an impressive school. Students from kindergarten through fifth grade can study in English or in a Chinese immersion program. The school has won awards. All seems normal, but as in so many places in 2021, it’s not.

In September, after a student who tested positive for COVID-19 was told he had to quarantine for several days, the boy’s father barged into the principal’s office and demanded that the kid be allowed back into school immediately. “I didn’t come here to challenge you, I came here to tell you this is not going to happen.” After the aggressive parent refused to leave, Vargo and her assistant attempted to get help, and were even more alarmed when the intruder told her that others were on their way, warning, “If you keep doing this, we’re going to have a big problem.” Two other men did arrive within a few minutes, one carrying military-style zip ties. They told Vargo that they were going to make a “citizens’ arrest.”

As it happens, the intruders were the ones arrested—by the police. Vargo has continued to receive threatening messages, such as an email reading: “Hi. Next time it will be a barrel pointed at your Nazi face.”

The vitriol aimed at local health department leaders over school mask orders continued at a meeting of the Barry-Eaton District Board of Health Thursday, as one man used the board’s public comment period to claim he was placing the health officer under “citizen’s arrest.”

No one was actually arrested.

The Michigan Parents Alliance for Safe Schools posted edited clips from the board of health meeting on its Facebook page. In the video, another person speaks of putting board members in a “gas chamber.”

I'm not so sure I trust the guy not because he's a never Trumper, but because he's real buddy buddy with the left. When you realize 99% of the hatred for Trump is that he was pardoning whistleblowers it kind of makes never trumpers seem like people with something to hide

 

It seems to have become a common practice among The Following to accuse conservatives who reject Trumpery of being liberals or being "buddy buddy" with them. It's an unpersuasive way to try to dismiss their critical observations of the Orange Fraud and nothing more.

An Arizona bill flatly states that the legislature may “revoke the secretary of state’s issuance or certification of a presidential elector’s certificate of election” by a simple majority vote. Some state legislatures seek to impose criminal penalties on local election officials alleged to have committed “technical infractions,” including obstructing the view of poll watchers.

Can you provide any evidence the never Trumpers have change their conservative positions on policy matters? Any evidence they've made an ideological shift to the left? Or is it that they simply reject Trumpery in all its anti-democratic forms?

I don't see much of a shift .. perhaps a little in terms of prison reform ... a few things here and there but generally not much. Not sure what rejecting Trumpery has to do with this ... completely two different ideas being conflated as if they belong together - with a bit of fallacy thrown in.. Protesting the valitidy of an election result is not "anti democratic" .. so you have an assumed premise fallac .. thrown in just to make sure your post was in keeping with normal .. your normal that is.

 

I'm speaking to numerous posts on the board claiming folks like Cheney are suddenly liberals to explain their refusal to accept the Big Lie specifically and Trumpery generally. The anti-democratic movement inside the POT goes far beyond the violent attempt to steal the election for Trump........so no premise fallacy on my part......but a pernicious denial the scope of of current events on your's.

 

Your "anti democratic" claim makes no sense .. or at the very least you have not supported this claim. Protesting an election result is not "Anti Democratic" -- The reverse is true.

Anti democratic would be gerrymandering .. keeping people from voting .. both of which Red is guilty .. but not protesting the result of an election..

 

Is that what you think the rally was about? The mob wasn't there to protest the election, they were there to help steal it. What's more anti-democratic than that?

With increased mail-in voting during the 2020 elections, states expanded drop boxes as a secure and easy way to return a ballot. Notably, in Georgia during the 2020 election, drop boxes were used more frequently in Democratic-leaning metro areas than rural Republican areas and in four counties in Atlanta, more than half of the absentee ballots cast in 2020 were returned via drop box. Georgia’s voter suppression law, Senate Bill 202, which passed in March, already imposes significant restrictions on the number of drop boxes in each county.

Safe??? I was told the same thing. I was hospitalized after a very bad truck accident in 1994. The hospital administered a relatively new drug in large doses, being approved by the FDA it should have been safe. 5 years later the FDA issued a black box warning as it caused a lot of people to have their tendons become brittle. Mine did. What will you do 5 or even 10 years from now if some nasty side effects show up?

 

How were they going to Steal the Election .. conduct a "coup" .. with a few unarmed protestors .. and without the backing of the army - in the USA.

How many times must it be pointed out the coup was attempted to be carried out by a plot to reject electors from certain swing states to deny Biden the needed EC vote threshold. Then have the legislatures of those Repub controlled swing states submit a new set of electors, ignoring the will of the people, to "elect" Trump. As I've said before, just because it was a batshyte crazy scheme doesn't mean trying it wasn't a coup, an attempted overthrow of the duly elected government.
