But only MSN and Not Fox News? Why only one side and not the other? Is it because you see your side as "righteous" ?

Previous to this post I had listed "specifics"- specific examples of propaganda and actions by Gov't which have proceeded totalitarian in the past.

To these specifics your general response has been to avoid discussion of the evidence and say "not true - or some variation of not true" with nothing to back up that claim. 1) avoidance 2) denial.

I then say "lets get into some specifics" = have an actual discussion of the issue.

You respond - yet again- with 1) avoidance 2) demonization.

You completely avoid discussion of any specifics and go in to a demonization rant.

Get a valid argument = something is not Ad hom or other fallacy.

I do not think there is any possible way to heal these divisions, and that the only real answer is a breaking up of the union. This of course cannot be done peacefully, and my guess is, we see another civil war in America in the next 25-75 years. Maybe sooner.

No, the world is not static. Situations evolve. Originally (the late 1700's), there was agreement on the fundamental role and powers of the federal govt. Over the intervening 220 years, the national situation has changed to the point where there are 2 competing factions with mutually exclusive agenda.

Reagan was a definitively a conservative, he had deeply held conservative beliefs. He applied his conservative beliefs in a manner consistent with the issues and conditions of his time, a time when the D's and R's had a lot in common and could work together. If Reagan were President today, he would act in a manner consistent with todays conditions which means he would not support many of the policies he supported in the 1980's (such as the failed amnesty for illegal aliens).

You assume the grass roots has power equal to the establishment. A false assumption. The establishment controls the mechanism of the electoral process, they set the rules for qualifying, and they set the rules which give encumbents advantages over challengers.

And even when the grass roots is winning, the establishment works to stop them. As in the Mississippi Republican primary of 2014 when incumbent Cochran recruited Democrats in order to defeat McDaniel (who was going to win).

Of course it was. It was the end of the liberal media near-monopoly.

Oh Bullshit. She slandered a fourth of the American Electorate. I'm so tired of the American hating Left. We get it, you hate us, because we won't surrender our Liberty to you.

Never Trumper laments that calling us racist failed

After two years of whining about Donald John Trump and we deplorable people who elected him president, Noah Rothman of the counterfeit conservative Commentary magazine finally gave up.

"Calling All Trump Voters Racist Won’t Make Them Disappear," Rothman wrote.

    What racism?

How is building a wall between Mexico and the United States racist?

Rothman revealed his true self when he wrote, "Republicans who bury their moral compass beneath a mountain of politically expedient rationalizations are doing themselves no favors."

    Really? How?

How does appointing Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court instead of Harriet Miers hurt Republicans?

How does rolling back a thousand unnecessary regulations hurt Republicans?

How does cutting the corporate tax to 21% hurt Republicans?

How does cutting individual taxes hurt Republicans?

How does a 3.8% unemployment rate hurt Republicans?

How does meeting with Kim Jong Un hurt Republicans?

Rothman is a man of words, not action. The only people hurt by Trump's actions are liberals who are out of power, who now include Rothman because a true conservative would celebrate.

Sticks and stones will break our bones, but names will never hurt us. Which is why Rothman is so sad. Calling us racist does not hurt us.

Trump did not drive these people mad. He merely revealed it.

We don't heal political divisions in America.

Healing divisions isn't what Democracy is about. We fight them out. If you want a polite political conversation sit down with someone in person, online this is a bad as any pamphlet or bulletin board discussion has always been.

Great observation! Especially number 4 and 6. I think that exploring more into these other potential factors a bit deeper could yield some additional ideas to improve things. Even if not, people simply thinking about them a bit more when attempting to work together to find solutions to problems could go a long ways towards making consensus cooperation and compromise more achievable.

Whoa, that's an amazing summary!! And short too! Way shorter than I would have even thought possible. But then, what do I know really...I'm the one who wrote the extra long original in the first place after-all, lol. Anyways, I think the last part about how one's lower down 'compromise' picks could end up deciding the election for the opposition was a particularly apt way to put it. Hope you don't mind if I use that summary elsewhere. And btw, I added your earlier suggestion on the Equal Time rule to the Discourse and Dysfunction threads.

Be my guest. I was a plan writer for a high-level financial planner for a while. I learned lots about writing precisely and concisely. But that was about 35 years ago and I am getting just a bit rusty.

Nobody wants your liberty, but we want liberty too. We would like not having the liar-in-chief take credit for all of the things Obama took 8 long years to bring about but that's the only thing that ever keeps Republicans going isn't it? We Democrats just start to fix the damage Republican Kleptocracies have caused then the pubs take all the credit while they're really just screwing it up again.

The only thing we liberals hate is how badly cons are ****ing up the country which they all seem to think is England circa 1760, with Trump I a worthy successor to Mad King George

We know where the middle ground issues is on most issues. Politics doesn't go there because no one lives there. Where is the middle ground between abortion on demand and abortion is murder? Abortion is murder sometimes? And what sort of sense does that make? There is an old saying in politics, 'There are only three sorts of things in the middle road, the dead the dying and those things about to become one or the other."

Extremists will never compromise, but moderates, the middle majority (and most sane!) will compromise. In your example of abortion, it's science-based at 24 weeks. Longer if the life of the mother is jeopardized, but that choice is left to the mother once the doctors recognize the situation.

I made no such assumption in no way shape or form. I agree 100% with what you are saying. Not only does the establishment control the electoral process by the things you mention - they own the MSM. Without a fair and free MSM there is no functional democratic process. The Establishment creates divisions - intentionally- to keep the electorate voting either red or blue. The E doesn't care because both Red and Blue are the Establishment.

The MSM promotes "fear fear fear". Aside from a few hot button issues "Abortion - Gay Marriage - Guns" red and blue are the same on the important issues. Both hate individual liberty and want to increase Gov't power. Both serve the oligopolies (international and national financiers) to create a system of indentured servitude - along with Big Gov't. It is an Oligopoly-Bureaucracy Fusion Monster.

It is a pay to play system and when you play - you get paid. It is not for her good looks and charming personality that Hillary gets 250K a pop for a 15 min speech at some wall street banker luncheon ... it is for a job well done ! when you play - you get paid and everyone knows it.

In 2013 it became "legal" for our intelligence agencies to create and disseminate propaganda on US citizens. There is a huge "Battle" for control of the message.
The media does not challenge the Establishment narrative - regardless of how false it is.

12 years of school and we manage not to teach our kids the main principle on which this nation was founded "individual liberty is ABOVE the legitimate authority of Gov't" - how is this possible ? We also fail to teach the basics of Philosophy (logic, logical fallacy, what constitutes a valid argument, critical thinking).

Again 12 years of school - how is this possible.

Without these basic tools - how is the voter supposed to wade through the cacophony of fallacy and bad argument raining down on the voter on a daily basis from politicians and the MSM ? Sure there are a few that catch on but, its a numbers game and the vast majority of the raging masses are not going to figure it out. They will keep voting red or blue - and in doing so continue to vote for their own sodomization.

100% true - look at what happened to Bernie ( like or hate the guy - what was done to him was clear meddling in the electoral process). This is true not only in our own nation - we go after grass roots movements in other nations. El Salvador, Nicaragua, Yemen, Syria, Indonesia and many others.

The same "Establishment international financiers" that run our nation also work to control other nations.

Prior to Roe V Wade Abortion was legal in every state in the nation if there was a direct threat to the mothers life. In thirty-eight states there are exemptions for rape and incest. Thanks very much for the red herring. Something like 60% of the population is against abortion strictly as a means of Birth control. And considering premature babies have survived at 18 weeks 24 isn't science based it is purely arbitrary.

Guess what, its easy to slander a fourth, a half, thre quarter or all of america. Trump does it on a regular basis without even trying.

Tired of Hillary's off handed comment.? Funny , cause you sure do seem to be getting maximum mileage out of it. If you are tired of it, why do you insist on constantly bringing it up? Oh right. I get it;.

Off-hand my ass, she read it off the teleprompter! That hate-filled "progressives" didn't react in shock and her slander of a 1/4th of the electorate, the sob's cheered!
Damn straight, it will NEVER be forgotten.
