Did you know that nasa is working on a warp drive? Using powerful gamma ray lasers we can make a black hole in front of us and pull the space time towards us, enabling travel.

man you really gave me a headache. Using exxel to increase my number by the incriments of 35

    1sec-35kph
    2sec-70kph
    3sec-105kph

    and so on

I eventually got to the point where it was

    149130-5219550

to check if my method will work I took 35 and multiplied it by 149,130. It gave me 5,219,550.

    take the distance again

    225,300,000 and divide it by 5219550. = about 49

49*149,130seconds = 7,307,370 seconds which equal 2.8 months. factor in the reduction in speed upon approach and you get about 3 months

    you can check this

35* 7,307,370 will equal 255,757,950. About Mars' average distance from earth

This is still the same as my original answer

149,130 seconds is 41.425 hours. Your spreadsheet showed velocity every second between zero seconds and 41.425 hours. After ~41.5 hours, you're going 5.2 million kilometers every hour.

Here you showed that if you stopped accelerating (G forces are acceleration) at ~41.5 hours you would travel the average distance between Earth and Mars in 49 hours.

You multiplied hours by seconds... not sure why.

Let me try again. 60 seconds in a minute times 60 minutes in an hour times 24 hours in a day, and then you multiply that by 35kph to find how much speed was gained IN A SINGLE DAY. At the end of the first day, you're going over 3 million kilometers every hour... Let's assume uniform deceleration and acceleration, so what we need to do is calculate how long it would take to go half your distance at constant acceleration, and double that time for the symmetrical deceleration. It would take even less time if we decelerated rapidly at the end, but we're trying to avoid heavy G-forces. So we're going for ~130 million kilometers. On the first day, you go 36 million kilometers. Distance is velocity multiplied by time... and when you have constant acceleration you will average the initial and final velocity so with uniform acceleration from zero you go half the distance of your final speed (since initial velocity here is zero) multiplied by the time. At the start of the second day you're going 3 million km per hour, and you'll gain another 3 million km per hour by the end. But overall it's going to be 6 million kph x 48 hours x 1/2 = 144 million kilometers. This is already past the halfway point... It takes less than 2 days to go halfway with 1G acceleration and deceleration, so the whole trip will take 3-4 days.

    cacc.gif

Equation from link: y = y(initial)+v(initial)t+0.5at^2, where y = position, t = velocity, a = acceleration, and t=time in seconds... since initial values are zero this simplifies to y = 0.5at^2.... 130 million km is 130 billion meters, and a = 9.8 m/s^2... solving for t (divide out 9.8/2, then take square root) yields 162882 seconds which is 1.885 days... so a precise number would be 3.77 days (double for deceleration during the other half).

one minor mistake... t does not equal velocity, v does. :p

Exactly, of course strong accelerations will always be required to escape the gravity of a planet, but to reach interplanetary cruise velocities, it's enough to accelerate at 1G, it will be only a matter of time ... accelerating for days and days you can reach a very high speed [but you will have to decelerate at the same pace! Otherwise the crew with face a tremendous trauma, so an interplanetary travel could be divided in 3 phases = a long acceleration phase, the travel, a long deceleration phase].

Of course there is a limit to the possibility to accelerate an object: while it accelerates [relativity tells us this] its mass increases, so that it requires more and more energy to accelerate it further.

At a speed close to the speed of light the energy needed to accelerate the object can become enormous, so impossible to produce by an engine [it doesn't matter how powerful].

So that, in this system of reference [space-time], it's impossible to travel faster than the speed of light.

NASA just tested that EM engine in a vacuum and it still produced that tiny amount of thrust. So if it is working in spite of Newton's 3rd Law which is still debatable, indeed it can work in deep space.

    http://io9.com/new-test-suggests-nasas-impossible-em-drive-will-work-1701188933

This engine will need much more research before it can actually be breaking natural law. Hopefully other institutions besides nasa will attack this so we get things sorted out. The traditional trouble has been, since the engine breaks newton's 3rd law, which is impossible, there is no need to construct one to test. And even if someone gave academia one, since it breaks natural law, there is no need to waste time nor money on testing it, researching what is already impossible.

No because you are adding 35kph every second.

    0since 0-35kph in 1 second equals 1 g.

    That means that 35-70kph in 1 seconds also equal 1 g. 70-105kph in 1 seconds equal 1 g.

So it went down the list like this

    1-35
    2-70
    3-105

    and so on

I RANDOMLY stopped at 5219550 because I got tire of scrolling

    5219550 goes into 255300000 49 timed.

Since I randomly stopped at my initial number, the number 49 also has little significance

It's simply the amount of times that my random number will go into the average distance of Mars from earth

To increase your speed by 35 every 1 second will give you constant 1 gs.

Hence if you check, my calculations are correct

I just realized something! Here's the thing: The particles materializing into the cavity are transferring in from other divergent states of reality. This is the multiverse at play.

They only exist at useful densities near a large mass like the Earth. Because there's so much matter involved. It doesn't really matter that there is a vacuum chamber in our divergent state of reality, the particles are popping in anyway. But out in free space there's very little divergent matter to be transferring in and out from somewhere else.

In deep space it would be like a sailboat without any wind. Useless.

Well Space has a HELL of a lot of dust and super spread thin gases out there.

    What you posted is interesting.

    I will think on it.

Propulsion just will not do for Interstellar Travel.....takes too long.

That's why we need to understand and develop a UFT.

Without it we have no chance of Viable Interstellar Travel.

At this point it goes way beyond what I am smart enough to understand.

Just think about how to NAVIGATE using a Gravitic or Warp Drive!!?? That would bake anyone's noodle!

It's working because NASA cannot create a true perfect vacuum.

You get far enough away from a Solar System and there is not going to be any dust or matter of any kind or enough of it to be used as a system of PROPULSION in an EM Drive.

After all...think about it.....what is it that is providing the propulsion?

Supposedly it uses microwave radiation for thrust. Some scientists believe the drive may be interacting with the quantum vacuum of the Universe. This is the lowest energy state possible for any piece of matter.

If it turns out that the drive is interacting with the quantum vacuum of the universe, it should work well in deep space, between far flung groupings of matter. Plenty of quantum vacuum in what appears to be empty space, which of course is hardly empty at the quantum level.

Yup! That's a toughie. We'd need to either detect things in our path faster than we're traveling (tachyons), or have a good computer that can predict an object's future movements based on light-speed only point-of-view sensors.

Yeah, could be if one buys into the multiverse hypothesis, which is so far impossible to actually conduct experiments looking for evidence. But my favorite explanation would be Consciousness at play, manifesting in this virtual reality particles, that pop in and out of existence. That is, pop in and out of consciousness as information. I agree with Campbell that this is a simpler idea, and easier to believe. Not that the easiness of belief matters. LOL

I understand what you and NASA are saying to me but something is bothering me and when I get a GUT FEELING like that...it usually means something is wrong.

I understand how an ION DRIVE works......so this thing that NASA is calling an EM DRIVE is using the Microwave Radiation created by the interaction of EM Fields to create Propulsion.....a very small amount of propulsion.

OK....a ROCKET....whether Solid or Liquid Fueled is using the propulsion of the Liquid or Solid Fuel blasting out of it's Rocket Engine and basically the Burn of the Material Solid or Liquid when in Space IS PUSHING THE NANO SECOND AGO OLDER EJECTED BURN MATERIAL WITH THE AT THE MOMENT EJECTED NEWEST BURN EJECTED MATERIAL.

If this didn't happen the ROCKET WOULD HAVE NOTHING TO PUSH AGAINST TO MOVE.

Sort of like.....you are in Orbit doing a SPACE WALK.....your cord BREAKS.....you start driffting slowly away from the Space Shuttle and then try using your arms as if you were SWIMMING but no matter how much you try to swim toward the Shuttle....YOU KEEP DRIFTING AWAY.

Now same state...but this time you have a CO2 GAS FIRE EXTINGUISHER in your hands.

You hold onto the thing and point it in the opposite direction of where you are drifting away from...that being the shuttle...and once you trigger it it provides the thrust to move you back toward the shuttle.

    BUT WHAT IS PUSHING WHAT???

Same Scenario.....you have 25 BASE BALLS with you.

You throw one baseball at a time directly in the opposite direction of the Shuttle you are drifting away from.

    What Happens?

Well....you start tumbling end over end if you throw the ball like a pitcher.

Let's say you hold each ball one at a time and SET SHOT with two hands from the level of your waste each ball.

Now that might cause you to move just a tiny amount back but the forward motion of your arms compensates for the force of pushing away from the ball.

Thus one can see how any ROCKET...or SHUTTLE THRUSTER.....uses the material it ejects to be a continuous line of material that the newest ejected material is pushing against.

HERE IS MY WORRY WITH THE EM MICROWAVE PROPULSION SYSTEM.

As Microwaves are on the EM Spectrum and are Radio Waves having ELECTRONS......this means as they are not Photons but ELECTRONS...they have MASS...as Electrons have a MICRO MASS....Phtons DO NOT.

    Check this out.

EmDrive (also RF resonant cavity thruster) is a proposed spacecraft propulsion device invented by British aerospace engineer Roger Shawyer, who founded the company Satellite Propulsion Research Ltd (SPR) in the year 2000 to develop his invention.[1][2] The device uses a magnetron to produce microwaves which are directed into a metallic, fully enclosed conically tapered high Q resonant cavity with a greater area at one end of the device, and a dielectric resonator in front of the narrower end. The inventor claims that the device generates a directional thrust toward the narrow end of the tapered cavity. The device (engine) requires an electrical power source to produce its reflecting internal microwaves but does not have any moving parts or require any reaction mass as fuel. If proven to work as claimed, this technology could be used to propel vehicles intended for all forms of travel including ground travel, marine travel, sub-marine travel, airflight and spaceflight.[3][4][5][6][7][8]

The device, its mode of operation, and theories attempting to explain it are all controversial. As of 2015[update], there are still arguments about whether the EmDrive is genuinely a new propulsion device, or whether its experimental results are simply misinterpretations of spurious effects mixed with experimental errors. The proposed theories of its operation have all been criticized because they violate the conservation of momentum, a fundamental law of physics, though Shawyer asserts that EmDrive does not.

I don't know....maybe this thing works.....maybe it doesn't....but it is setting off my SPIDER SENSE!!!

It's not a calculation error you're making, but rather not correctly using variables. The factor-label method would help. I think what you calculated is how long it would take to accelerate to ~260 million kph. Which means that the ship could travel from earth to Mars in a single hour at that point. But it wasn't stationary in the time getting to that speed, rather its position changed exponentially as its velocity increased linearly. To show you another way, your velocity at 1 month is about 90 million kph. If you stopped accelerating at one month, you'd then go more than the distance between earth and mars in <3 hours

I heard of something similar a long time ago, except, instead of using microwaves, it would use electrons in a similarly shaped superconductor.

As a Human Body would suffer massive and deadly Circulation Problems if that person was in a space craft accelerating at greater than 1-G for multiple weeks.....let's use 1-G Acceleration.

A person could survive the short term initial 8 to 10 G takeoff acceleration.....and let's say after Obiting the Earth at 28,000 mph we sling shot out at a velocity of 30,000 mph and as for the moment this velocity is constant there is Zero-G...which is not good either.

So we turn on an Ion Drive and begin to accelerate at 1-G which would mean an additional 33 Feet per second squared.....thus the first second passed you are traveling at 30,000 mph plus 33 feet....send second 30,000 mph and 66 feet a second.....3rd second you are traveling 30,000 mph plus 99 feet a second....and so on and so on....and in a short matter of time.......in 10 seconds you are traveling at 30,000 mph plus 330 feet per second.....in 100 seconds you are at 30,000 mph plus 3,300 feet per second.

Point is the increase in MPH happens quickly as 1 second you travel 33 feet...in 2 seconds you travel a total of 99 feet because 1-G acceleration is 33 feet per second SQUARED....plus of course the distance traveled from traveling at 30,000 mph to begin with.

Point is 1-G acceleration can after a matter of a few days DRAMATICALLY INCREASE TOTAL VELOCITY.

And this is STILL too slow for Interstellar travel because not only do you have to travel at an increase in velocity of 1-G....at the half way point you have to start DECELERATING at 1-G.
