How irresponsible was McCain for picking Palin in 2008 ?

Mother. Irrelevant.
Hockey mom. Irrelevant.
PTA mom. Irrelevant.
Cooked her family meals. Irrelevant.
Drove to work. Irrelevant.
Sportswoman. Irrelevant.
And, frankly, an approval rating of 85% in a state with the population of a small British town isn't very representative or impressive.
The only thing Palin had going for her was that she came across as your average, fairly likeable person. In all other respects she was emphatically not remotely qualified to be considered as potential POTUS material. Way, way above her pay grade.

 

Yet she was probably more qualified than the current President at that time.

 

In which respect? I'll admit that from this side of the pond Obama doesn't appear especially effective, but at least he maintains a modicum of the gravitas and statesmanship which is necessary when dealing with international politics-and it's that which takes up a huge amount of a president's time. Imagine Palin with Putin? She'd be a fish out of water.

 

He speaks well as long as he has a teleprompter and he likes to campaign (and still is). Hardly a qualification for President. Palin would not be the pushover Obama is, mainly because of his ideology that stems from the thought that there is something wrong with America and especially his elitist attitude towards many Americans.

Mick insofar as referencing the Tea Party, I am not 100% sure that is the case. I think that is the distinct difference between Libertarians and the Republican based conservative Tea Patriots. I think they would still spend a LOT of money, just on military. They still support a lot of overseas interventionism it seems.

Government intervening in ours lives is a mantra of both Democrats and Republicans, they just do it differently. Both and wrong for doing so.

As far as "traditional values" go, I am against imposing ANY of my values on anyone else. If two gay men want to marry I don't care, but I believe government as no business in the wedding business anyways.
