    I was about to head down to the marine corps when I was 18 but got a really good job offer so took that instead.

    I served in the Air Force. I have no idea how many on this board served in the Army.

    There's no need to call someone a coward if they don't respond to you. Most people will ignore you because they think you are being rude or confrontational. I'm sure it's just a cultural or translation kind of thing.

    Is there something you wanted to know about serving in the US military? I don't know much about the Army, but I suspect you meant any of the US armed forces. I have friends who have served in all of the different branches of the military.

    Our military service is voluntary and we couldn't afford to pay and train everybody. I'm proud of my service, but I don't hold anything against those that never went into the military. It's not for everybody.

    My brother finished college with a double major in 4 years with an athletic scholarship. He went on to get his master's degree and has a successful career and is raising great kids. He has earned everything he gets and he has my respect. I wouldn't call him a coward because he didn't join the military.

    My cousin never served in the military. He has been a policeman for 30 years. He has done undercover work and kicked in doors during drug raids. He is now a homicide detective and also works for the BATFE. He faces more danger than I ever did in the military. I wouldn't call him a coward.

    You grew up in a completely different circumstance. You had no choice but to go into the military and to not do so would be considered cowardly. That doesn't apply to America.

    I have great respect for your family ..
    They are really well done and not cowards.
    -----------------------
    But I do not agree with you ...

    Look at the thesis:
    "You had no other option ..."

    ================================
    In fact, you also have few opportunities.
    In America, to "get the money to do karru" I have heard many times, that we should serve in the Army ..
    Therefore, a person should not be a coward ...
    --------------------------------
    As for the other features "America - a country of great opportunities .." .. then please do not tell me HollyWood stories ..
    I lived in America, know that every dollar we have to work very hard.
    I lived not "immigrant", and came to visit you, to see the possibility of investment in America ...

    ================================
    Now...
    We're talking about the army?
    Then it is necessary to distinguish between contemporary Russia and the Soviet Union in the mid-80s ...
    I was in the middle of the 80s ..
    I - a student of Moscow State University (Master of Technology) ..
    Students are not drafted into the army ..

    But your Reagan called the Soviet "Evil Empire", so the Army were all students ...
    -------------------------------------------------- -
    I wanted to serve in the landing forces.
    After the first year of service asking to Afghanistan.
    Not allowed ...
    - "You - a physicist and have to finish school and study science .."

    ==========================

    PS ..
    We, Russian, always laugh when the Americans say:
    "A good education - a college ..."

    Soviet standard:
    College - a "ПТУ" :wink: - that is, the school, which receives all those who could not go to university ...
    Soviet education was the best in the world ...

    Really? What a load of claptrap! No body has to answer to you about serving in the Army or any other branch of the U.S. or Russian military. And not doing so DOES NOT make them a coward. Nor does not serving in one's country's military. I suggest if you have some sort of problem with 'stupid' people, try first looking in a mirror and work on the reflection you see.

    human,
    here I am talking to those who have served in the army ..
    ---------------
    You start talking.
    This is not the topic branch.

    ==================
    - You were or not?
    - You were at war or not?

    ---------------------------------
    If the answer is yes - then the conversation will turn out ...
    If the answer is no, then gulyaute other forum topics ...

    America is a great land of opportunity. More people go from poor to rich than anywhere. The hard part is that fact that there is no safety net. (At least, there didn't used to be.) America is becoming more socialist and our culture of achievement and independance is being corrupted.

    You could be the most brilliant person in America, but if you get yourself addicted to drugs, or are too lazy to study, or only have an interest in some useless college field that will not get you a good job, you might as well be stupid.

    In America, you could have been a paratrooper if you wanted, even if you had the intelligence and aptitude to be an engineer or surgeon. The Russian model is more efficient for the government, but the American model would give you more freedom to succeed or fail in the field that you choose to pursue.

    I finished my Bachelor's Degree while I was in the military. I combined that with the experience I got fixing instruments and flight controls on military jets to get a job as a field engineer. I repair Uninterruptible Power Supplies at industrial sites all over the US. I make decent money and I am dispatched from my home. I don't have to go to work unless a job is scheduled or an emergency happens. I typically work 40-50 hours/week, but I manage to attend 90% of my kids baseball games, band concerts, etc..... I could work harder and make more money, but I am comortable and my schedule helps me prepare my kids for their futures and keeps my wife happy. I know people who worked very hard at their career and they paid a bigger price by ignoring their families. I try to keep my life balanced in that respect.

    I've done enough chatting with random strangers for now. I'd better get busy working around the house. It's been nice getting a foreign perspective. See ya.

    Again. Not that it matters but I served in the United States Air Force. And here's another suggestion for you. You might want to try enrolling in an English language course. Especially if you want to speak or write in clear, concise and a more intelligent manner where people will better understand you. Although with the questions you pose...

    Really. You need a course to learn how to 'strike' a person's face? Well, it just goes to prove. Stupidity knows no geographical boundaries.

    I'm really trying to give you the benefit of the doubt because, obviously, English is not your first language and there is a huge background difference between you and most people on this board. I think it's pretty cool that you are getting out and seeing how people in America think and trying to understand our motives and values. This tough guy image and challenging the toughness of Americans, or calling American women lousy isn't going to fly. Physical threats are a joke as well. We are all anonymous, except maybe to forum administrators. You can't kick people off of threads. They will laugh at you when you try. I know it will go against your tough guy nature, but the best you can do is report a post to the moderators and if they agree that the other guy broke forum rules. Only they can kick people off of threads or the entire board.

    Clark T is provoking you the same way you seem to be provoking us. You are at a disadvantage because of your English language skills, but you'll figure it out in time. You might try participating in the threads of others and offer your different perspective. There are others from your area on this board who have a good grasp of the English language and argue their positions rather well at times. I suggest that you don't be so critical of others until you learn to defend your positions better in our language. This "I'll kick your ass" type of rhetoric is funny, but it doesn't make you look smart or reasonable. I suspect that you are a lot smarter than your rhetoric.
