"If a handgun ban were enacted, what should be done about the existing supply of some 65 million civilian-owned handguns? Could the nation afford to eliminate them through a program? Since many handguns began as cheap 'junk guns,' a generous estimate of the average buy-back price would be $250. The total tab would be about $16.25 billion, which is slightly more than three SSN-21 nuclear attack submarines.44 Considering that by conservative estimates America spends $4 billion annually on medical care for gun violence victims, the cost of a buy-back could be recouped in a few years. "A clear-cut plan to ban handguns should be developed and implemented soon. Considering the many thousands who are killed or maimed by the handgun each year, how much more motivation do we need?" http://www.vpc.org/studies/unsafe.htm It sounds affordable. In the long run America would end up saving a lot of money.
Utter fail. There are more than 300 Million handguns in private ownership counting those handguns purchased prior to G.C.A. of 1968 prior to registration etc... Currently any numbers below that are fictitious in nature.
Better yet, spend 10 Billion Dollars upgrading the Legal system and Courts with advanced technologies and upgrades to LE computer systems, the National crime computer system, N.I.C.S. and prosecute criminals to the full extent of the law rather than pester law abiding citizens as criminals. Saves 6.5 Billion right there.
I can see it now... Gang members lining up to sell back their handguns. Can we take them from those who protect our politicians as well?
Fracking Gun buy backs are a huge waste of monetary resources, something Liberal Democrat Gun Control Apolologists absolutely adore above all else. Spending other people's hard earned.
$250/gun isn’t close to a fair price for my handguns, with a single exception. At that price, it would be no different than stealing. Stealing, not just from me, but millions of law abiding citizens to cover for the failures of liberal policies. It’s just another form of confiscation, a plan that will result in far more death than currently happens.
"Since many handguns began as cheap 'junk guns,' a generous estimate of the average buy-back price would be $250." What does that statement even mean ? Began as cheap junk guns ? Does a $150 High-point Pistol become an expensive Kimber if you clean it and feed it premium ammo ?
Finally, a great use for High-Point handguns, buy them in pallets, sell them to the buy back program for a $ 50 profit per gun !
Dunno, I saw a phone dock amplifier at a yard sale, no price on it, asked how much, And was told $ 2 !!! Rechargeable, in like new condition, and it works perfectly, Internet price is $ 60 used. Those old sayings are not always applicable.
Based on available research on the matter, the average market price for standard-grade handguns in the united states is approximately four or five hundred dollars, depending on the manufacturer. There are some manufacturers that charge around three thousand dollars for their handguns due to the time and effort put into constructing them from the ground up. The approach utilized by the nation of Australia would never work in the united states. The government simply does not have the necessary funding to attempt such an approach.
The government can afford to spend trillions fighting wars in the Middle East. This is minor by comparison.
The gun banners first targeted handguns, in the 1960's and 1970's they openly called for a national handgun ban. It made a lot of sense to them since handguns are used far, far more often in homicides than any other weapon. The Brady Campaign was originally names Handgun Control Inc, and directly advocated for a total ban on handguns. There was also the National Coalition to Ban Handguns (NCBH). And that was completely rejected. Handguns were low cost, easy to use, easy to store, and too many people wanted them for legitimate reasons including self-defense. If you think banning so-called "assault weapons" is tough to do, wait until you try to ban handguns. Another gun banner FAIL.
A $250 handgun ??? Maybe forty or fifty years ago. Guns are the best financial investment that can be made. They lose a fraction of value when you walkout of the store but soon only go up in value. When there is a Democrat in the White House or when liberals talk about gun control guns only go up in value. I paid $300 for my Springfield Armory .45 M-1911 A1 when Clinton was President and today it's worth close to $700. Paid $124 for my .45 Colt Ruger Black Hawk revolver and because it doesn't have the PC safeties on it, it's worth $800. In 1962 a Colt AR-15 sold in the sporting goods stores as a hunting rifle for $198, today they sale for $1,200 or more. Any attempt of a Nazi or commie gun buy back, all guns would sky rocket in value by 1,000% A fair leftist gun buy back would cost the taxpayers $ 100 trillion dollars.
No bad hombres burglarize a home looking for guns. Actually criminals will avoid burglarizing a home if they know the home occupant is a gun owner. Burglars are looking for drugs, cash, jewelry, smart phones and anything they can quickly be fenced off on the streets or at a pawn shop for cash. Most legally purchased guns are traceable, being caught with a stolen gun is not in the best interest of criminals. Criminals can easily and cheaply purchase handguns on the streets in any state that has strict liberal gun laws like California where the black market gun business has sky rocketed. The biggest supporters of the Democrat anti gun legislation has been the international gun traffickers. The biggest international gun traffickers are Russians and Chi-Coms. The Chi-Coms government makes huge political donations to the DNC and Democratic politicians so they can smuggle weapons into America.
